--> --> RCC board member accused of molestation By Maggie McGehee Ashland Daily Tidings A member of the Rogue Community College Board of Education is facing a civil lawsuit from her stepson, who claims she sexually molested him while he was in her care. According to documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court, Denise Miller's stepson Gregory Miller, now in his 40s, has filed a civil lawsuit against her for allegedly molesting him from age 10 until he was 18 years old and is seeking $765,000 for economic and non-economic losses he claims he suffered as a result. Denise Miller, of Ashland, denied the allegations through her attorney Tom Howser. "Every other family member or family acquaintance vehemently denies that that went on," Howser said today. "This type of allegation is tough enough to create all types of problems, and the kid knows it." Howser would not comment further on the matter. According to court documents, the lawsuit alleges that Denise Miller used various strategies and tactics and acts of sexual abuse to condition him to participate in sex with her. He claims that because of Denise Miller's actions he has suffered "alienation from his own thoughts, feelings and perceptions; alienation from family and others; anger and rage; anxiety and fear; avoidance of activities, places and people that arouse recollections of abuse; avoidance of thoughts, feelings or conversations associated with the trauma for years," among other claims, according to court documents. Gregory Miller now lives in Gold Beach, but at the time when the alleged incidents occurred, the two lived in Ashland. Gregory Miller is seeking about $1,500 for psychological injuries as well as any injuries he will incur in the future for psychological counseling and therapy. He also claims that because of Denise Miller's actions, his capacity to earn a living wage has been damaged and is seeking $110,000 from her as well as $650,000 for non-economic damages and legal expenses. The case is set to go before a 12-person jury on June 18, 2002. Email your...
