Bradbury will visit Ashland, Bend, Corvallis, Eugene and Medford. He promises to offer the show wherever 50 of more people gather. Gore, the star of a documentary derived from his slide show, has started training 1,000 "Climate Project" volunteers to help spread his environmental message around the globe. Bradbury was in the first class of 50, along with the mayor of Billings, Mont., a Navy flyer and country singer Kathy Mattea. Bradbury, a Democrat, received an invitation to join the project after he saw Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" in July and called Gore's chief of staff to ask whether he could help. "Global warming isn't something we should be kind of a little bit worried about," Bradbury said. "It's a crisis." Gore launched the effort to train 1,000 slide show-toting messengers in September. Last week, Gore trained 85 presenters in Sydney to spread the word in Australia. The United States and Australia are the only major industrialized nations that have declined to sign the Kyoto Protocol limiting carbon emissions. The treaty took effect in February 2005. "It's outrageous that we have a president that denies that we have any problem," Bradbury said. Gore trained Bradbury and his other messengers by gathering them in his Carthage, Tenn., barn, screening his slide show and answering all questions. Bradbury, who did not use taxpayer money for his trip to Tennessee, localizes the global warming story by adding depictions of glacier melt on Mount Hood and rising sea levels along the coast of Oregon. "It goes to whether I'm leaving a world to my children that they're going to be able to live in. It's that fundamental," Bradbury said. "I don't mean to be so doomsday about it, but it's really a crisis." The price of admission for Bradbury to attend the training was a pledge to deliver the slide show to at least 10 audiences.
