FRIGHTFUL FUN Halloween-apalooza in Ashland Comment By Angela Decker for Revels DailyTidings.com By Angela Decker for Revels Posted Oct. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM By Angela Decker for Revels Posted Oct. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Little monsters, princesses and ninjas will sleep well this Halloween weekend after a full day of celebration in downtown Ashland. “It’s going to be a lot of fun for every one of every age,” says Katharine Flanagan Cato of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. “Since the event falls on a Saturday, Ashland is packed with activities.” The spooky-themed fun starts Friday evening with the Ashland School Foundation’s Monster Ball Pasta Party from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Fuel up for the Monster dash with a pasta dinner, beer and wine bar, a silent auction and dancing. This year, the Monster Ball is teaming with Tree House Books to offer more kids’ activities, and the costume contest will be held at the Monster Ball instead of the Monster Dash. Pasta Party tickets are $10 for ages 14 and older, $6 for ages 3 through 13 and free for 2 and younger. Tickets are available at the door, at Ashland public school offices and online at ashlandmonsterdash.com . Saturday morning, Oct. 31, kick off Halloween with a one-mile fun run/walk, followed by a 5K run/walk and a 10K run/walk at the seventh annual Monster Dash. Race day registration, packet pick-up and vendors open at 9 a.m. at Lithia Park. The one-mile race starts at 10:30 am, and the 5K and 10K start together at 11:15. Medals are awarded to those ages 18 and younger who finish. Registration and packet pick-up information also are available at ashlandmonsterdash.com . The Monster Ball and Monster Dash are sponsored by the Ashland Schools Foundation, Yogurt Hut and The Ashland Kiwanis to raise money for classroom grant programs. Depending on the weather, the event can bring about 1,000 people. “It’s become a tradition for a lot of families,” says Susan Bacon, executive director of the Ashland School’s Foundation. “The Monster Dash is the happiest event — people love it.” The Children's Halloween Parade will start at 2:30 p.m., Saturday Oct. 31, in front of the Ashland Library. The procession will be led by the band Samba Like it Hot, and costumed revelers will march down East Main Street to the Ashland Plaza. Ashland DanceWorks will perform Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” on Pioneer Street. Families and children line up on Third Street between East Main Street and Lithia Way. Adults without children follow behind and line up on Siskiyou Boulevard, in front of the Ashland library. Along with the Monster Dash and the parade, there’s plenty more action for kids of all ages: The Growers and Crafters Market Market on Oak Street between Lithis Way and East Main will have costumed vendors, pumpkin decorating and more from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A donut-eating contest will be at 10:30 a.m., plus more activities. Head to Paddington Station's Haunted Basement, 125 E. Main St., and meet the resident mad scientist and his assistant Igor from 1 to 2:30 p.m. A spooky storytelling party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Tree House Books, 15 N. Main Street. A Halloween storytelling session with Jeannie Renaux and her Shadow Puppet Theater will be presented at 1:30 p.m. at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. Children are encouraged to wear costumes but not masks. Photographer Judith Pavlik will take photos of kids 12 and younger from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St. Photos are $5 and proceeds go to Ashland Food Bank.
