Stanley, — who hails from Sacramento, was forced to drop out last season with a back — injury, but returns as the No. — seed and is the odds on favorite to win — again. — That might not have been the case had defending champ — Josh Prager returned, but Prager will attend a wedding instead. — Stanley's best competition in the 12-man bracket is expected — to come from second-seeded Chad Wilson of Eugene. Wilson, 23, won the — 2000 title. — Two Ashland men will also be gunning for the top men's — title - Trevor Gamble and Ari Zaslow. Gamble will take on North Medford — High product Tyler Wilson in the first round at 5 p.m. Friday, while Zaslow — opens against Samuel Rollins of Talent at the same time. — Zaslow played singles and doubles for Ashland High before — graduating in 2003, while Tyler Wilson graduated in June after advancing — to the semifinals of the 4A state tennis tournament. — — — — — — — Stanley and Chad Wilson both get first-round byes and — won't play their first match until 9 a.m. Saturday. — On the women's side, defending champion Annie Chaney will — not defend her open title, making Medford's McKenzie Hilmer the top seed. — Ashland's Jessica Baker, a 2002 AHS grad, is the No. 2 seed in the six-player — bracket. — Baker and Hilmer both get first-round byes will play semifinal — matches Saturday - Baker at 10 a.m. and Hilmer at 3:30 p.m. — Another Ashland resident, Casey Schein, will also compete — in the women's open division. — Three of the five teams in the men's open doubles bracket — are also local. Martin Lee and Samuel Rollins are from Talent, Mateo Mengis — and Nicholas Milan are from Medford and the No. 2-seeded team of Trevor — Gamble and Leo Young are from Ashland and Medford, respectively. — Patrick Rutz of Folsom, Calif., and Todd Stanley of Sacramento — make up the top-seeded men's open tandem. — There were not enough women's open doubles entries signed — up to build a deep enough bracket, so that tourney was dropped this year. — The inaugural men's doubles under-140 years bracket was also dumped for — the same reason. Tournament organizer Steve Sacks says Big Al's may start — up a boys and girls under-18 division for '05. — The men's 3.5 singles bracket features the largest field — of the tournament - 18 players. — More than 400 matches will be played this year, concluding — with the championship matches all day Sunday. Both the men's and women's — open singles divisions will wrap up with 9 a.m. championship matches. — This year's tourney features players from Chico, Redding, — Mount Shasta, Portland, Nevada, Canada and Washington, Sacks said. There — will be 75 players from Ashland and Medford competing - 45 from Ashland — and 30 from Medford. — Brackets will be updated daily at www.usta.com .
