The Raiders (4-3) won their 12th consecutive contest against an NAIA Region I foe dating back to last season by downing Lewis-Clark State College 30-22, 30-22, 30-20, but SOU was unable to rally in a 30-21, 30-17, 17-30, 30-28 setback to seventh-ranked College of St. Mary, Neb. "We did a lot of good things today, but we also looked like a young team at times," Raider coach Paul Elliott said. "We took care of business at the regional level, but we can't afford to come out flat and expect to beat a perennial NAIA power (CSM)." Junior middle blocker Nicholette Le Bel of Central Point led Southern with 26 kills (in 45 swings) and seven blocks in the two matches, while former North Medford all-star hitter Kristin Ferris collected 22 kills and 26 digs. Sophomore Jess Childress collected 22 kills, including a team-best 15 against CSM. Sophomore setter Melissa Beard averaged 11 assists in the seven games. Southern plays for second-place in the five-team tournament and caps the non-conference slate tommorow morning against Bellevue, Neb. The Raiders continue on the road until their home opener Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., when rival Albertson College of Idaho visits McNeal Pavilion.
