Born to Buzz and Nellie Mae Smith, Dan was raised on a ranch in Keno, Ore. where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. He graduated from Henley High School in 1962. Dan married Vicki Shults in 1964 and moved to Ashland, Ore. where they raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Emilie. Dan worked for the City of Ashland and Ashland Lumber Yard before starting his career with Pacific Power and Light, where he became a heavy equipment operator, a job that he loved. Dan worked much of his career in southern Oregon and northern California and developed a strong connection and love for the Klamath River canyon. Dan's friends and family knew Dan to be humble, generous, quick with a laugh, and neat as a pin. He enjoyed working, fishing, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. Dan is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Smith of Ashland and Emilie and Shane Gledhill of White City, Ore.; granddaughter, Kaitlin Gledhill; sister, Ella Mae Ridgeway of Sacramento, Calif.; and brother, Ernie and Judy Smith of Keno, Ore. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 12, 2015 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland Street, Ashland, OR.
