He was born February 9, 1936 in Ashland, Ore. to Volney Merrick and Mildred Agnes Thornton. He was a descendant of the Thornton/Andrews pioneer families. Richard was a graduate of Ashland High School and member of the United States Air Force, in which he served after the Korean War. He married Adleen Ann Raymond of Barre, Vt. in 1958 and was part-owner of Harrision Autoparts. Upon his retirement, Dick enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Mt. Ashland, where the family established a tree farm. He relished his time in his Ashland home, and a second house in Three Rivers, Ore. He also enjoyed many adventurous trips with his wife. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Adleen Thornton; three daughters; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity.
