SOU lands two on all-CCC softball team Pitcher Craig, freshman infielder Randall make cut Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted May. 5, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted May. 5, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Southern Oregon University softball players Brianne Craig and Kelsey Randall doubled up Monday with All-Cascade Conference and CCC Gold Glove accolades, the league office announced. A sophomore from Rialto, Calif., Craig was one of four pitchers on the All-CCC list and Randall, a freshman from Concord, Calif., was one of two shortstops. Three outfielders and one player at every other position were selected for Gold Glove awards. Alexa Gonzalez, a junior third baseman who has made 133 starts the last three seasons, received honorable mention following a career-best campaign. Craig led the circuit with an earned-run average of 2.18, going 15-8 after a 7-9 season in 2014.She made 21 starts, tossing 18 complete games and two shutouts, and with 16 additional relief appearances threw 177 innings, the third-most in the CCC. The right-hander struck out 75 and walked 65, averaged over three times as many groundouts per game (12.9) as flyouts (4.2), and her .255 opponents' batting average ranked fifth. In her first year at the collegiate level, Randall broke nine-year-old SOU records for hits (86), runs scored (57) and total bases (113) in a season. Her .422 batting average ranks fifth in Raider history, her 34 stolen bases rank second, and her 15 doubles tied an SOU record established in 2010 by Katie Moy. She also drove in 27 runs from the leadoff spot, the second-highest total on the team, and led the Raiders with 20 extra-base hits. Randall had 24 multi-hit games, registering three hits 11 times and four hits on four occasions. Randall committed nine errors this season, at one point going without one in 18 consecutive games. Craig handled 67 grounders on the mound and committed just two errors. Gonzalez – who was also considered a cornerstone of the Raider defense while moving from shortstop to third base for the first time in her career — was arguably the most improved hitter in the league. A year after hitting .185 with no homers and nine RBIs, Gonzalez tripled her hit total to 61 to bat .367 and lead the team with five homers and 32 RBIs. Oregon Tech's Tara Moates, a freshman utility player who batted .505, was named player of the year, and OIT's Greg Stewart was named coach of the year for the seventh time after leading the Owls to the regular season title. Concordia's Lucy Baldovino, despite ranking eighth in the league in overall ERA (3.22) and ninth in conference-only ERA (3.53), was voted pitcher of the year based on her league-high 22 victories. SOU's season ended Saturday at the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank. The Raiders finished fourth in the CCC and posted a record of 33-26.
