Photographer Ted Demetriades of Grants Pass took the photo picked for the cover, called “Autumn Leaves in Lithia Park.” The Oregon Blue Book has been published biannually since 1911. It contains up-to-date listings and descriptions of government agencies and educational institutions, an almanac, maps and facts about Oregon history and elections as well as information about the arts, media and other cultural institutions in Oregon. It also provides a concise analysis of Oregon’s economy, government finance and education strategy. The new Blue Book also features winning essays by Oregon schoolchildren about why they like living in Oregon and their favorite places to visit. A color insert in this year’s printed Blue Book explores Oregon’s early rural schools. The feature, which also is viewable online, uses photos, artwork and memorabilia to highlight the colorful history of rural education in Oregon before World War II. The book costs $18 in paperback and $30 for hardback online at https://secure.sos.state.or.us/prs/shopBlueBook.do. It may also be ordered by phone by phone at 503-986-2204.
