ROTARY CLUB OF ASHLAND Rotary Club of Ashland names Riley O'Sullivan as Student of the Month Comment By Rotary Club of Ashland DailyTidings.com By Rotary Club of Ashland Posted Mar. 23, 2015 at 7:52 PM Updated Mar 23, 2015 at 7:59 PM By Rotary Club of Ashland Posted Mar. 23, 2015 at 7:52 PM Updated Mar 23, 2015 at 7:59 PM » Social News The Rotary Club of Ashland has announced its selection for the Student of the Month for March. Riley O'Sullivan, a senior at St. Mary's School, has been nominated by the faculty at the school as confirmed by Upper School Head Jim Meyer. Lesley Klecan, Director of College Counseling at St. Mary's, affirmed Riley's qualifications, stating in a letter of qualification to colleges, "Riley is an integral part of each class. He strives for perfection in his work... Riley truly is the ideal student." Riley was presented with the Ashland Rotary award at its regular meeting on March 12. Riley has been an active student both academically and in non-academic activities. He has been captain of the St. Mary's football team while at the same time maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. He has been a mentor at the Kid's Unlimited Charter School and an active participant in the St. Mary's School Pageant. As part of the school community service requirement, Riley was inspired by a teacher to take a service trip to Gulu, Uganda, which inspired him to start a Community Service Club which raised $5,000 for various community activities. As the subject of his junior project, Riley was inspired by the revelations of Edward Snowden to write a political science research paper on "Whistle Blowing," which was characterized by his college counselor as, "... with a little more time the work would have been a genuine upper-division college term paper." Riley's college plans are to study medicine with a goal of family practice or pediatrics.
