'People' at Hanson Howard "People Who Need People", the current exhibit at Hanson Howard Gallery is a collection of portraits, figures and places with people. "People" is the thread that connects this very diverse show which includes all media - paintings, prints and sculpture and many styles and themes. Robert DeVoe's small intimate oil paintings depict a cafe setting and a woman in the kitchen. In contrast a large oil by Ken Grant called "There's something About a Guy" suggests a sailor on leave who is entranced by two young women. "Portrait of a Chinese Girl" by Harry Bennett is a painterly and colorful oil of a somber young woman. Karen Staal has painted two large recreation areas including visitors. Clifford Wilton's expressionistic "Standing There" is a strong example of his understanding of the human form. There are several figurative sculptures by Michael Walsh, Leslie Lee, Wataru, and Richard Fox each expressing their unique styles in clay. Phyllis Yes has cast a life sized torso and head which has been embellished with painted designs as part of her "Honored Women" series. Works on paper include mixed media paintings by Jean Chalmers, Kris Hackelman, a pastel painting by Lyle Matoush and monoprints by Stacie Smith and Guy Pederson.
