Festivities started with the traditional run, followed by the parade from 10 to about 11:40 a.m. The procession, Ashland's 100th annual, was kicked off with a flyover by a pair of F-15 jets from the Oregon Air National Guard base at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls. Serving as grand marshals were Dan Bulkey — a former Southern Oregon University professor — and Stan Smith, better known as "Mr. Raider Football," the oldest living member of SOU's undefeated 1946 football team. As the temperature built to a high of about 97 degrees, a bevy events stretched from the Plaza well up into Lithia Park. Mayor John Stromberg greeted the crowd, most of whom picked out shady spots around the edges of the viewing area by Butler Bandshell, and introduced members of a large delegation visiting from Guanajuato, Mexico.  Buzz Fraser read the Declaration of Independence, and Bob Jackson Miner, appearing as Abraham Lincoln, delivered the Gettysburg Address. The Ashland City Band performed, as did other musical groups. In the evening, members of the American Band College gave a concert at Ashland High School, followed by the shooting off of fireworks from the Southern Oregon University Athletic Field.
