Mazama room at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. The conference is sponsored by the Oregon Renewable Energy Center at OIT, the Oregon State University Klamath Basin Research and Extension Center, the South Central Oregon Economic Development District and the Klamath County Biofuels Task Force. OREC is hosting a series of conferences on renewable energy topics. All conferences are open to the public and feature leading experts in the field. The biofuels conference is the first in the series and will address issues in alternative energy production and use. Those in the agricultural industry are encouraged to attend, as well as those with an interest in feedstock production as a use for biofuel. "Biofuels hold great promise as a substitute for gasoline and diesel," said Tom Chester director of OREC. "This conference will give the participants up-to-date information on how biofuels are made and issues associated with their use. In the Klamath Basin, biodiesel is being produced and used, and ethanol producers are considering the area for their plants. As a leader in renewable energy in Oregon, OREC is pleased to be a sponsor of this event." Scheduled conference speakers include: Dale Gardner, National Renewable Energy Laboratory associate director for renewable fuels science and technology; Dr. Art Wiselogel, manager of project development at BBI International, located in Lakewood, Colo.; Dr. Donald Wysocki, associate professor of extension soil science at Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center; Gary Elliott, executive consultant on power development at International Applied Engineering; Dr. Ganti Suryanarayana Murthy, assistant professor of biological and ecological engineering at Oregon State University; Rick Walsh, R and R Enterprises; Tomas Endicott, founder of SeQuential Biofuels; Jeff Deiss, USDA rural development business and cooperative program director; Don Hollis, business program specialist for USDA rural business-cooperative service; and Rick Wallace, lead for the business energy tax credit program for transportation and alternative fuel projects at the Oregon Department of Energy.
