--> --> Lemon taps new campaign manager By Sean Wolfe Ashland Daily Tidings In a mid-campaign staff shakeup, Virginia Lemon, the woman who would challenge Sen. Lenn Hannon for his seat this November, has replaced her campaign manager. Because Dan Golden, 18, will be leaving Ashland to study in Ecuador, his seat will be filled by retired Southern Oregon University mathematics professor Reider Peterson. Peterson is also the widower of former Ashland resident Nancy Peterson, who served four terms in the Oregon State Legislature. He was unavailable for comment on the change today as he was participating in a long-distance bicycle trek. For his part, Golden, who is the son of former three-term Ashland Mayor Cathy Shaw and public radio personality Jeff Golden, did not return phone calls by presstime. Commenting on the change, Lemon told The Tidings in a telephone interview that she came to know Peterson through her work on his late wife's multiple campaigns. "I always liked him, and they're a great family. I remember working on every one of Nancy's campaigns, stuffing envelopes and making posters. When I learned Dan was thinking about Ecuador, I ran into Reider, and I thought of asking him," Lemon said. When asked whether the change in staffing would alter her campaign in any way, Lemon said she thought it would "work out beautifully." "I don't think it will damage the momentum at all. I think there will be new momentum, and new energy. Reider's very capable, and I think he'll do great work," Lemon said. Email your...
