- Subscribe - Contact Us - Rate Card - Place an Ad Archives Revels Classifieds Real Estate Guide Weather Subscribe Contact Us January 20, 2005 Once a year, AHS artists of all persuasions strut their stuff � in a benefit for the school's visual and performing arts programs Ashland High Arts Advocates present their annual Winter Fine Arts Festival on Friday and Saturday at the AHS Mountain Avenue Theatre. Student art show and silent auction begin at 6 p.m.; performances at 7 p.m. Show tickets, $9, are available at the AHS main office, Ashland Tree House Books and Paddington Station. The Festival provides a showcase for the school's departments of visual and performing arts while also helping to raise the funds AHAA utilizes to support those activities. Musical performances include classical programs by the string quartet, concert and chamber orchestras; vocal works by the treble, chamber and concert choirs; and performances by the AHS band, wind quintet and jazz band. Dance works will be presented under the direction of Wendy Spurgeon, and the theater department will perform an original improvised skit, "Lullaby of a Nightmare or The Joke's on You." Works by the school's art and craft students will be on view in the theater lobby beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. In addition to the Winter Fine Arts Festival, AHAA will also present their annual Fine Arts Awards evenings. The evenings help to provide publicity for concerts, plays, art shows and student accomplishments; offers stipends for students participating in honor and enrichment activities; provides funds for summer enrichment scholarships and teaching program; and helps to sponsor an annual AHS First Friday through the Ashland Gallery Association. Membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the arts. The group meets in the AHS Music Room at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, September through May.
