Storms set rain records, but drier weather's coming Monday Oct 17, 2016 at 10:31 AM Oct 17, 2016 at 3:48 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Weekend storms dropped record quantities of rain in Jackson and Josephine counties, with counts ranging from 2.5 to almost 7 inches from Thursday to midnight Sunday. Medford received 3.73 inches during the period, while parts of Ashland received as much as 3.25 inches, Central Point got 2.5 inches, and Grants Pass saw a whopping 6.85 inches. Medford set a record for Oct. 16, with 1.12 inches. The previous record, 0.56 inches, was set in 1969, weather officials said. Grants Pass got 1.94 inches Sunday, beating the previous record of 1.5 inches set in 1947. Ashland saw 0.9 inches Sunday, short of the record set in 1947 of 1.01 inches. More rain is expected today in parts of southwestern Oregon, and showers could continue into Wednesday. "After that, the trend should be drier and warmer," said meteorologist Misty Duncan. "(Not) warmer as in hot, but warmer as in warmer than it has been."
