Sign-ups offered for benefit walk Ashland Daily Tidings Residents are encouraged to sign up now for the 31st annual WalkAmerica on Saturday, April 28, to benefit the March of Dimes. Five- and 10-kilometer walks will begin at 9 a.m. at Medford's Hawthorne Park, located near the intersection of Hawthorne and Jackson streets. Participants are invited to accept the "$200 Challenge" by setting a goal to raise that amount in donations from friends, family members and co-workers. Money raised through WalkAmerica helps the March of Dimes continue programs, including research into gene therapy and the prevention of premature labor, community services to help women get prenatal care and public education to teach women about folic acid - the B vitamin that may help prevent serious brain and spinal cord defects.
