Motade Atanda and Paulla Pinheiro combined for 40 kills and 27 assists and 16th-ranked Southern Oregon took charge early in the final set before pulling away for a 25-11, 25-20, 25-27, 20-25, 15-11 victory. Oregon Tech rallied back from a 23-21 deficit to claim the third set, then cruised in the fourth to set up a fifth and deciding set before 455 fans. There, Southern Oregon scored four of the first five points and never allowed the Owls closer than two points the rest of the way. The win, SOU’s fourth in a row, improved the Raiders to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Cascade Conference. Oregon Tech fell to 11-3 and 2-1 and watched its four-match win streak come to an end. Atanda had 20 kills and 14 digs and Pinheiro 20 kills and 13 digs to lead a Raider squad that had 31 kills and only seven attack errors in the first two sets. Lauren McGowne had 55 assists, Brookelynn Cole 21 digs and Nikki Keller 12 kills and two blocks. For Oregon Tech, Kelsey Sampson had 12 kills and 14 digs and Megan Holland 26 assists. The Owls fought off two straight match points to make it 14-11, but Atanda finally put Southern Oregon over the top two hours and seven minutes after the match began off an assist by McGowne. Women’s Soccer At La Mirada, Calif., Biola scored the only goal it would need in the first minute of the second half and added an insurance goal in a 2-0 nonleague win over Southern Oregon on Wednesday. Taylor Venegas scored off an assist from Amanda Lillicrop at the 45:28 mark to put Biola ahead to stay. The hosts scored again 28 minutes later when Ashley Ramirez connected off an assist by Amanda Otto. Biola (4-1) out-shot Southern Oregon 18-9, including 8-3 in on-goal attempts. The Raiders (1-5), who dropped their fifth straight, have one more nonleague tune-up Sunday at Concordia (Calif.) before their Cascade Conference opener Sept. 25 against Evergreen State College. Girls Soccer At Klamath Falls, Jessica Harrower’s spectacular all-around effort led the way as Ashland dismantled Henley 4-0 in a nonconference game on Wednesday. Harrower, a senior, had a hand in every Ashland goal, recording two goals and two assists to help the Grizzlies improve to 2-1 overall. Henley fell to 0-2. “It was another very good performance,” Ashland coach Eric Wolff said. “In the first half it was very evenly matched, but then in the second half my girls really turned it on. Henley was getting frustrated at end of the first half because they weren’t able to put any pressure on our keeper really. And in the second half, we turned it up a notch and basically just out-passed and out-possessed them.” Harrower opened the scoring in the 38th minute when she looped in a corner kick, then teamed up with freshman Mya Elder-Hammond eight minutes into the second half, with Elder-Hammond’s goal coming off a perfect give-and-go. Harrower notched her second goal in the 61st off a nice assist from junior Samantha Lilley, who dished nicely into the penalty box to set up Harrower’s short, angled shot. Senior Facienne Graham tacked on the final insurance goal for the Grizzlies off Harrower’s final assist. Harrower found Graham streaking toward the net, and Graham dribbled around the keeper for the finish. “They just had great teamwork today,” Wolff said.
