MARIJUANA Portland dispensary fined $2,500 for handing out products in parking lot Comment By The Associated Press DailyTidings.com By The Associated Press Posted Oct. 20, 2015 at 5:05 PM By The Associated Press Posted Oct. 20, 2015 at 5:05 PM » Social News PORTLAND — A Portland dispensary is out $2,500 after the state fined the establishment for allowing a vendor to give away marijuana concentrates and pre-rolled joints in the parking lot on the opening day of recreational marijuana sales. The fine against Cannacea is the first disciplinary action against a dispensary since recreational sales began Oct. 1, The Oregonian reports. According to a stipulated settlement order, the dispensary allowed marijuana products to be given away in its parking lot and that Cannacea failed to check the identification of people receiving the swag to be sure they were 21 or older or that they were medical marijuana patients. Marijuana concentrates and edibles are currently off-limits to recreational customers. The health authority investigated Cannacea on Oct. 1 after the Oregonian asked officials whether giving away marijuana-infused candies in the store's parking lot was legal. The authority has hired about a dozen inspectors, but they don't start until next month. Spokesman Jonathan Modie said the staff from other departments has been conducting spot inspections on dispensaries statewide. A bulletin sent to all dispensaries on Oct. 2 informed owners that giveaways and free samples of any marijuana inside or outside the store is prohibited. Tisha Siler, who was cited as the one responsible for the store, paid the fine in full.
