Cyber-amazed I am amazed by Gaither Everett's response to my letter and it does nothing but convince me that some folks love fighting a lost cause. This is never more evident than in the invective heaped upon Californian's, who by and large are good honest folks. Calling us "Californicators," "CyberSlickers" or "barbarians" is both disrespectful and unwarranted. Fight the cause with the strength of your argument, not through demeaning slurs. I still stand by my argument that the "gentrification" of Ashland is good. As for the building on the hillsides around Ashland, this is where good city governance comes in. You cannot stop the influx of migrants into Ashland, but the city can ensure that good building practices are enforced. As for building new businesses, I said nothing about building office buildings in residential areas, rather I would assume that again good city governance will set aside areas such as on "A" street where software and other high-tech businesses can grow. Yet again I stand by my argument that there is nothing wrong with providing many good jobs where there are now so few. Progress and change are a fact of life in this country, as is the desire to ensure that it is for the good. If by a barbarian you mean someone who loves his wife of 20 years, enjoys good books, fine wine, good theatre, fine art, helping neighbors and is a card carrying member of Amnesty International, then I plead guilty.
