A week after voters dumped the Raiders (7-1 overall, 6-1 Frontier) three spots to No. 7 for their 42-40 loss at Carroll — which is now ranked second — SOU nearly recovered thanks to its performance in a 66-16 win Saturday at College of Idaho. The Raiders return home this Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against 21st-ranked Rocky Mountain, whose 20-17 loss to Montana Western caused an eight-spot dip in the rankings. SOU and Carroll, who have only lost against each other, are tied with a two-game lead in first place over Rocky. Fans can vote on SOU-Rocky for NAIA Game of the Week now on the SOU Athletics Facebook page. Tickets for that game are on sale online at souraiders.com/tickets. SOU is tied with Georgetown (Ky.) at No. 5. The Raiders were behind Georgetown in last week's poll, but caught up and bypassed Baker (Kan.), which suffered its first loss of the season and as a result went from No. 2 to No. 7. Morningside (Iowa), the only undefeated team left, remained in the top spot with all 15 first-place votes. Weekly honors Southern Oregon University emerged with two Cascade Collegiate Conference players of the week, two Frontier Conference players of the week and one NAIA player of the week after its latest weekend of fall sports action. The national and conference offices announced Monday that four SOU seniors — runner Summer Cano, libero Brookelynn Cole, linebacker Laurence Calcagno and quarterback Austin Dodge — were voted winners. Dodge, the usual suspect, was selected the Frontier football offensive player of the week and then NAIA offensive player of the week for the sixth time in his career. In Saturday's 66-16 win at College of Idaho he completed 23 of 29 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns. In the first quarter alone he went 6-for-6 with 261 yards and three TDs. Dodge leads the NAIA in passing yards per game (359.5), total offense per game (364.4) and touchdown passes (27). He's now thrown at least four TD passes on 15 occasions in his career, but Saturday's game was his first throwing for over 400 yards on fewer than 30 attempts. Calcagno came up big against the Coyotes with a game-high 12 tackles, including three for losses and one forced fumble that he recovered, to earn Frontier defensive player of the week for the second time this season. Calcagno leads the conference in tackles with 78 (53 solo and 25 assisted), and leads SOU with 10.5 tackles for losses and 4.5 sacks. The fifth-ranked SOU football team (7-1 overall, 6-1 Frontier) returns to Raider Stadium this Saturday to square off with 21st-ranked Rocky Mountain at 1 p.m. Cole is the CCC volleyball defensive player of the week for the second time this season. While the 11th-ranked Raiders (19-3 overall, 13-1 CCC) were extending their win streak to nine, she collected 46 digs in seven sets (6.6/set). Her 5.1 digs per set rank third in conference play. Cano paced the 23rd-ranked SOU women's cross country team for the fourth consecutive race Friday at the Beaver Classic on a sloppy Avery Park course. She finished 10th of 99 runners overall, leading all NAIA entries, with a time of 22:23 over 6,000 meters. Cano and the Raiders will next be in action at the Cascade Conference Championships on Nov. 8.
