Michael Mollo, a guitar player and songwriter who has lived in the area for a dozen years, may have been sighted at the Jackson Wellsprings and on Ashland Street near Interstate 5, but has not contacted friends of family members since he walked out of the Ashland Community Hospital on July 24, according to his partner, Abby Lewis. He may have headed to Mt. Shasta or Portland. Mollo, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was receiving medical treatment for a scorpion bite on his right foot that became infected. He left the hospital against the advice of medical personnel and the infection could become life-threatening if not treated soon, according to the Ashland Police Department. “He’s well-loved,” Lewis said, adding friends and family held a community prayer circle for Mollo in Lithia Park on Sunday.”We just want him home and safe.” In the past, Mollo has disappeared during schizophrenic breaks. However, he normally retreats into the woods and then returns on his own. “He usually gets money once a month and he always checks in with his mother, but that hasn’t happened this month,” Lewis said. Mollo is not on medication to control his mental illness and may be violent if contacted by someone he is not familiar with, according to Lewis. Mollo is white, approximately 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds, with brown eyes, and may have attempted to cut his dark, curly hair. He may be limping or hopping because of the infection and will probably have a beard or stubble on his face. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact the APD at 482-5211.
