--> --> Music from local musicians is now for sale in compact disc form around town, including the office of Briscoe Elementary School on Wednesday. Ashland Daily Tidings/DENISE BARATTA CD sales aid arts programs in ASD Ashland Daily Tidings Ashlanders interested in festive holiday music can also help out citywide schools by purchasing a locally produced compact disc. Dal and Renée Carver, owners of the Wild Goose Cafe & Bar, have produced "The Wild Holiday Goose" collection of songs on CD, showcasing local musicians performing Christmastime tunes. The CDs are being sold for $12 at all Ashland public schools and a host of businesses around town. Proceeds from sales will be pumped back into arts programs within the Ashland School District. "I attended Ashland schools and graduated from AHS, and this was a chance to give something back," Renée Carver said. "People here really care about their schools. If people buy this for their own collection and also as gifts, we could raise thousands of dollars for local schools." "We really had a blast working on this," Dal Carver said. "We asked musicians who I really respect and enjoy listening to (to record)- people like Paul Jenny and Jim Quinby, who I've been listening to for years, and some great younger players like the New Autonomous Folksingers and Jeff Stanley. "The album is terrific," he said. "Even if I didn't know the performers it would be one of my favorites. They even let me play on a couple of tracks." Music styles include ska, traditional, folk, jazz, klezmer, salsa and New Orleans R&B. Other musicians include Tom Freeman, Donna Bishop, Linda Marie Greenburg, Cassie Lindbloom, Bil Leonhart, Sage Meadows, the Klez Katz, Jeff Addicott, Little Thom, Rose Marie Mayer, Priscilla Quinby, Dave Scoggins and the Wild Goose Chase Trio. Standout tracks, according to the Carvers, include Stanley's hyperactive ska version of "Jingle Bells," and Meadow's unadorned but haunting version of "O, Holy Night." Businesses where the CD is on sale include The Wild Goose, Bloomsbury Books, Cripple Creek Music, the Beanery, A Street Office Supply, the Book Exchange, CD or Not CD, Hardware Cafe, Home at Last, NW Natures, the Music Coop, Nuwandart, Inti Imports, Lightning Copy, Bugaboo and Brother's Restaurant. Freeman Sound Studio worked with the Carvers to record the CD at cost, with Little Thom co-producing and Eric Warren of Rogue Design donating all design and graphics work.
