Paula Brown, City of Ashland public works director, said top lift paving work has to be done in warmer weather conditions to ensure quality work. The weather has to be at least 40 degrees, preferably 50 degrees, with no rain, she said. If this doesn't occur near the deadline, paving work would be delayed until probably late April. "It's up in the air now," Brown said. "Currently, it's too cold and wet. ...We don't want pavement that fails. No one wants that." If the paving work is delayed, cones and other construction related work would be removed, causing no traffic delays, she said. The $3.7 million reconstruction project will feature new traffic signals, crosswalk timers and other improvements that will make pedestrians more visible to traffic. This work should be done by Dec. 15. Brown said. The construction work by contractor LTM Inc., which started more than a year ago, has been through a number of delays. This has caused frustration and anger from drivers and pedestrians who have to navigate the construction work each day. Brown said the city has received its share of complaints about the construction. "We know we're impacting the community and we appreciate their patience and support," she said. "It will get done. I promise." Changes to Siskiyou Boulevard once construction is finished will include bicycle lanes on both sides of the road and medians that close the "breaks" at Union, Harrison, Avery and Liberty streets, University Way and Palm Avenue.
