[an error occurred while processing this directive] (none) Talent woman dies in head-on Alcohol appears to have been the cause of a head-on collision in Central Point that left a Talent woman dead and five others hospitalized. The collision occurred on Hanley Road at 4:58 p.m. Sunday. Jane Talos, 43 of Talent, was pronounced dead at the scene. Talos was carrying five passengers when the Ford van she was driving collided with a Ford van driven by John Gertsch, 41, of Medford, according to police. A Jackson County Sheriff's Department official said today that Gertsch's blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit. Gertsch and all passengers in Talos' van were injured in the accident. Gertsch apparently sideswiped a guardrail, causing his van to veer into the oncoming lane and hit Talos' vehicle, police said. Gertsch was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition this morning, according to hospital spokeswoman Leslie deSchweinitz. Hannah Talos of Talent, Timothy Borders of Medford, Jacob and Rhema Nelson of Phoenix, and Stephanie Marx, an exchange student from Belgium, were passengers in Talos' van. Police believe they were returning from church. Ages were not available. Hannah Talos was in serious condition in Providence Medical Center this morning, said Administrative Supervisor Shelly Colclasure. Marx and Jacob Nelson were in fair condition at RVMC, according to deSchweinitz. Borders was in critical condition at Providence Medical Center. Rhema Nelson was treated and released from there Sunday night, Colclasure said. "The case is under investigation and charges are pending," said Sheriff's Dep. Marty Clark.
