He’s not 6-foot-4, he doesn’t particularly like to run, he isn’t shy about speaking his opinion — or talking about injuries — and he has a Twitter account. Even though Adams was playing with a broken index finger on his throwing hand, he took responsibility for Oregon’s 31-28 loss at Michigan State. Some fans still sacked him on social media harder than the Spartans did on the field. “I try not to get into a lot, but sometimes I go through it and I see it,” Adams said after confirming his finger is broken following Wednesday’s practice. “I appreciate all the real Duck fans out there who are faithful and understand that not everybody’s perfect and that I’m not where Marcus Mariota is. “Some of the people out there are just mean, and they’re supposed to be Duck fans. I just can’t see how people can do that.” Mariota certainly spoiled college football enthusiasts with his dazzling play the past three seasons, which continued during a stellar NFL debut last Sunday for the Tennessee Titans. Adams is looking forward to eventually stepping out of No. 8’s shadow by leading Oregon to another Pac-12 championship and back into consideration for the College Football Playoff. But the coaching staff is deciding whether rest or reps are more beneficial this week for the Eastern Washington graduate transfer. No. 12 Oregon hosts Georgia State on Saturday at Autzen Stadium in a nonconference tuneup in which the home team is favored by 44 1/2 points. “I don’t know, we’ll see. It’s a game-time decision,” Adams said when asked if he would be making the start against the Panthers. “But (the finger) is feeling good, and I feel like I’m going to play.” Adams broke his finger in the opener against his former team. Despite the injury and only practicing with the Ducks since mid-August, Adams threw for 309 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a touchdown against Michigan State. For the second consecutive week, backup Jeff Lockie is preparing to start in case coach Mark Helfrich and offensive coordinator Scott Frost decide he’s a better option than an injured Adams.
