Grizz split DH The Ashland High softball team split a doubleheader with Hillsboro on Saturday at North Mountain Park, winning the opener 1-0 before dropping the nightcap 4-1. Megan Beugli fired a three-hit shutout in Game 1, but Hillsboro rebounded to forge a non-conference split behind a nine-hit attack in Game 2. Beugli (2-1), the Grizzlies' senior ace, struck out four and walked none while also going 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener. Ashland (2-6) was held scoreless until pushing across the game-winner in the eighth inning. In accordance with international tie-breaking rules, Amanda Cardoza began the frame at second base, made her way to third on Alysse Carlson's bunt, then scored when Hanna Elliot lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. Natalie Braham (0-4) suffered the defeat in Game 2, allowing eight hits and four earned runs. The Grizz defense hurt Braham's cause by committing four errors.
