By Local report June 25. 2015 8:31PM Deer scare Ashland walkers Deer have reportedly been acting aggressively in the heart of the Railroad District and above the Boulevard behind the library, according to a new release issued by the city Thursday. "This is the time of the year when deer are fawning and can become aggressive if they sense their fawns are threatened," the release says, citing reports from near the intersections of B and Fourth streets and Gresham and Fairview streets. "Walkers should avoid these areas for the next few days particularly if walking with a dog." The city advises: • Don’t ever approach a deer or their fawns; • Assume all does have fawns somewhere nearby and will defend them; • Keep a greater distance during fawn season; and • Most, but not all encounters with aggressive deer involve dogs. Deer will sense your dog’s presence likely before you see the deer, particularly if they are in a semi-enclosed area.
