In fulfillment of Wyden’s pledge to hold annual town halls in each of Oregon’s 36 counties, this upcoming public community meeting will increase to 798 the number of town halls he has held since his election to the Senate in 1996. “It’s clear from my first town halls of 2017 so far that Oregonians are coming out in record numbers with real concerns,” Wyden said. “I look forward to continui

Just more than a quarter of the city of Ashland's managerial staff — and none of its appointed department heads — are female, a statistic described by a former councilor as an "institutional problem" but viewed by the city administrator as a "snapshot in time" that doesn't reflect the city's recruiting efforts. As the city of Ashland prepares to file a job posting by February and begin the recruiting process for a new police chief, former City Councilor Eric Navickas and his w

A typical Ashland water bill payer would see about a $16 increase per year to fund ongoing maintenance of Ashland’s watershed after the City Council decided on a 5-1 vote Tuesday to pursue a rate increase based on meter size. That approach was preferred by most councilors to a property tax increase that would have amounted to about $27 per year for a typical property owner. The Ashland Forest Resiliency (AFR) project began in 2010 as an effort to reduce buildup of undergrowth and debris t

PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber said Friday his fiancée will have no role in his administration for the rest of his fourth term after questions were raised about her consulting work. Visibly nervous as he addressed reporters with a shaky voice, Kitzhaber said Cylvia Hayes would continue her consulting business but would not work for organizations that "have anything to do with the state of Oregon." The Democratic governor has been on the defensive about Hays' work since ne

SALEM — State health officials say 440,000 Oregon residents could lose health care under the U.S. Senate's proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act, potentially causing the state's uninsured rate to triple to 15 percent by as early as 2021. Proposed cuts to federal Medicaid funds would also shift more than $6.2 billion in costs to the state and eliminate 23,000 health-related jobs statewide by 2026, while older individuals would be strapped with much higher insurance premiums on th

Two of the ordinances dealt with animals downtown. One prohibits leading livestock through downtown without
