On May 15, 1980, the following representatives of their
respective banking institutions were contacted and advised that "F
since January 1, 1980, Congressman John P. Murtha had.not
contacted them or their bank in connection with his placing of
large deposits, certificates of deposit, or other significant
capital investments there. They also advised that Murtha had
no accounts or loans of any kind at their institutions:

Congressman John P. Murtha-had not contacted him_or anyone-else
connected with his bank since January 1, 1980, concerning his placingof large deposits, certificates of deposit, or other significant-
capita investments there. He also advised that neither John P. Murtha
or any member of his family had any type of savings accounts, checking
accounts, certificates of deposit, or loans with his banki He did
advise that the Murtha for Reelection Committee had both a checking

had not contacted that bank since January 1, 1980, concerning
his placing of large deposits, certificates of deposit, or '
other significant ca ital investments there. He further advisedthat to the best of is knowledge Congressman Murtha and his a
family did all of their banking with he Dale National Bank and
he knew for a'fact that they had two loans with that bank,
certificates of deposit there and both checking and savings
accounts.

ongressman John P. Murtha who was just a local businessmanat that time. This loan was for Murtha's car wash business andhe did not know Murtha before that time. ,
He could'not recall the exact amount of the loanwithout a review of the records but recalled it to be a sizeable .loan for a small business. He knew of no particular reason whyMurtha couldn't have obtained this loan elsewhere but assumedthat since he was a small businessman he came to Dale NationalBank because it was a small bank.-

He did recall that there were periods of time when,because of poor business conditions, Murtha could not meet theloan payments as originally established. On these occasions,Murtha initiated contact with the bank and other.arrangementswere made so that least partial payments were made on thisloan and it was therefore never in default. Conceivably, forthis reason, Murtha might feel some obligation to the Dale
National Bank.
