The March 13, 196k, edition or "The New York
Times," a daily newspaper published in New York, New York,
contained an article on page 20 which indicated that
- :-meson: 2'. Ll"-TTIE}, for-her national official oi the Nation
of Islam NOI! and Minister of NOI Mosque #9} New York, who
broke with the NOI on March B 196R, publicly announced inNew York City on March 12, 1961:, that he had famed the
Muslim Mosque, Incorporated MI!. The NMI, according to
the article, would be a broadly based politically oriented
black nationalist movement for Negroes only, financed by
voluntary contributions. In this public statement MALCOLM X
urged Negroes to abandon the doctrine or non-violence when
it is necessary to defend themselves ih the civil rights
struggle, and he also suggested that Negroes form rifle
clubs to protect their lives and property in times of
emergencies in areas where the government is unable or
unwilling to protect them.
Incorporation papers of the HME filed on March l6,
196R, with the Business Section, Clerk of Courts, New York
County, New York, New York, reflect that the MMI was
incorporated under the Religious Corporation Law of the
State of New York to work for the imparting of the Islamic _
Faith and Islamic Religion in accordance with "accepted
Islamic principals." The principal place or worship to
be located in the Borough of Manhattan, New York, New York.
During an. appearance over KYN - Television,
Cleveland, Ohio, on April 7, 1964, MALCOLM X stated that
the MMI does not stand for integration, but for complete
freedom, Justice, and equality for Negroes. he stated
that Islam was the religious philosophy or the MI, while
the political, economic and social philosophy was black
nationalism.
On May 15, 196R, a confidential source advised that
the headquarters of the MMI are located in Suite 128, Hotel
Theresa, 2090 Seventh Avenue New York City, where they were Westablished on March 16, 196. ;W.g

Mosque #7, also known as Temple #7, and is located at
102 Heat 116th Street, New York City. Mosque #2 is a
part or the NOI headed by ELIJAH MUHAMMAD, with headquarters
in Chicago, Illinois. Mosque ii?! follows the policies and
programs aa set torth by ELI-TAB MUHAMMAD.
The date Mosque #7 originated in New York City
is not known.
However, in connection with the origin of Mosque
#7, it should be noted that in 1953 a second source advised -that there was a temple of the nor Zxnewn to source then as
the Muslim Cult of Islam! in New York City located at 135th
Street and Seventh Avenue, as tar back as 191-I7.

The March 13, 1963, edition of "The New York
Times," a daily newspaper published in New York, New York,
contained an article on page 20 which indicated that
MALCOLM X LITTLE!, former national official of the Nation
of Islam NOI! and Minister or NOI Mosque #W, New York, who
broke with the NOI on March 8 1968, publicly announced inNew York City on March l2, l954, that he had termed the
Muslim Mosque, Incorporated HI!. The NI, according to
the article, would be a broadly based politically oriented
black nationalist movement for Negroes only, financed by
voluntary contributions. In this public statement MALCOLM X
urged Negroes to abandon the doctrine of non-violence when
it is necessary to defend themselves in the civil rights
struggle, and he also suggested that Negroes form rifle
clubs to protect their lives and property
emergencies in areas where the government
unwilling to protect them.

nationalism,
On May 15, 1964, a confidential source advised that
the headquarters of the MI are located in Suite 128, Hotel

The NOI is an all-Negro organization which was
originally organized in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, MUHAMMAD
claims to have been selected by Allah, the Supreme Bing, to
lead the so-called Negro race out or slavery in the wilderness
of North America by establishing an independent black nstion_
in the United States. Members following MUHAMMAD's teachingsend.his interpretation of the "Koran" believe there is no" 'such thing as a Negro; that the so-called Negroes are slaves
of the wt te race, referred to as "white devils", in the
United States; and that the white race, because of its
exploitation of the socal1ed Negroes, must and will be
destroyed in the approaching "War of Armageddon";
In the past, officials and members of the HUI,
including MUHAMMAD, have refused to register under the
provisions of the Selective Service Acts and have declared
that members one no allegiance to the United States.

The Nrch 13, 1965, edition or "The New York
Times," a daily newspaper published in New York, New York,
contained an article on page 20 which indicated that

of Islam N01! and Minister or NOI Mosque #7, New York, Vh
broke with the N01 on March 8 1964, publicly announced in
New York City on March 12, l , that he had formed the
Muslim Mosque, Incorporated NMI!. The NMI, according to
the article, would be a broadly based politically oriented
black nationalist movement for Negroes only, financed by
voluntary contributions. In this public statement FmICOLN.X
urged Negroes to abandon the doctrine of non-violence when
itis necessary to deiend themselves in the civil rights
struggle, and he also suggested that Negroes form rifle
clubs to protect their lives and property in times of
emergencies in areas where the government is unable or
unwilling to protect them.
Incorporation papers of the MMI filed on March 16,
1963, with the Business Section, Clerk of Courts, New York
County, New York, New York, reflect that the MM! was
incorporated under the Religious Corporation Law of the -
State of New York to work for the imparting of the Islamic
Faith and Islamic Religion in accordance with "accepted
Islamic principals." The principal place of worship to
belocated in the Borough of Manhattan, New York, New York.
During an. appearance over KYW - Television,
Cleveland, Ohio, on April 7, 1964, MALCOLM X stated that
the MI does not stand for integration, but for complete
freedom, Justice, and equality for Negroes. He stated
that Islam was the religious philosophy of the MMI, while
the political, economic and social philosophy was black
nationalism.
On May 15, l96#, a confidential source advised that
the headquarters of the MMI are located in Suite 128, Hotel
Theresa, 2090 Seventh Avenue New York City, where they wereestablished on March 15, 1965.

and"h£sinterpretation of the "Koran" believe there is no
such thin as a Negro; that the so-called Negroes are slavesof the white race, referred to as "white devils", in the
United States; and that the white race, because of its
exploitation of the so-called Negroes, must and will be
destroyed in the approaching "War of Armageddon",
In the past, officials and members of the NOI,
including MUHAMAD, have refused to register under the
provisions of the Selective Service Acts and have declared
that members owe no allegiance to the United States.

On May 5, 1958, the first source advised MUHAMMAD
had,_upon advice of legal counsel, tempered his personal
statements and instructions to his ministers concerning
the principles of his organization in order to avoid
possible p secution.by the United States Government;
however, he d not indicate~any-fundamental changes in
the teachings his organization.
On July , 1963, a third source advised MUHAMMADhad early in July, I9Qg, decided to de-emphasize the
religious aspects of t e teachings of Islam and to stress
the economic benefits to be derived by those Negroes who
Joined the NOI. This policy change, according to MUHAMAD,
would help him acquire additional followers and create
more interest in his programs.

Times," a daily newspaper published in New York, New York,
ccraeined an article on page 20 which indicated that

trek: with the NOI on March 8 196R, publicly announced inN=, jerk City on March 12, 1964, that he had formed the
Hlpilm Mosque, Incorporated HEIE. The HHI, according to
the article, would be a broadly based politically oriented
black nationalist movement for Negroes only, financed by
voluntary contributions. In this public statement MALBOEM X
urged Negroes to abandon the doctrine of non-violence whenit is necessary to defend themselves in the civil rights 92 struggle, and he also suggested that Negroes form rifle L"
clubs to protect their lives and property in times of
emergencies in areas where the government is unable or
unwilling to protect them.
Incorporation papers of the MI filed on March 16,
196A, with the Business Section, Clerk of Courts, New York
County, New York, New York, reflect that the MMI wasincorporated under the Religious Corporation Law of the L!
State of New York to work for the imparting of the Islamic "
Faith and Islamic Religion in accordance with "accepted
Islamic principals." The principal place of worship to
be located in the Borough of anhattan, New York, New York.
During an. appearance over KYW - Television,
Cleveland, Ohio, on April 7, 1964, MALCOLM X stated that
the MI does not stand for integration, but for complete .

of Islam No. 2, 5335 South Greenwood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois,
is the national headquarters of the NOI; and in mid-1960,
MUHAMAD and other NOI officials, when referring to MUHAMAD'8
organization on a nationwide basis, commenced using either
"Mosque" or "Temple" when mentioning one of "Muhammad's
Temples of Islam.

originally organized in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. MUHAMMAD
claims to have been selected by Allah, the Supreme Being,

including MUHAMMAD, have refused to register under the
provisions of the Selective Service Acts and have declared
that members owe no allegiance to the United States.

had, upon advice of legal counsel, tempered his personal 'l
statements and instructions to his ministers concerning the _g
principles of his organization in order to avoid possible 11'

In January, 1957, a source advised ELIJAH IUH5lIAD has
described his organization on a nationwide basis as the "Nation
of Islam" and "Muhammad's Temples of Islam."
On Hay 8, 1964, a second source advised ELJJAH IUHAIAD
is the national leader of the Nation of Islam H01!; Iuhammad's
Temple of Islam Ho. 2, 5335 South Greenwood Avenue, Chicago,
Illinois, is the national headquarters of the N01; and in mid-1960
MUHAMMAD and other N01 officials, when referring to IUHAIlAD's
organization on a nationwide basis, commenced using either "Iosque"
or "Temple" when mentioning one of "Iuhamad's Temples of Islam."
The N01 is an all-Negro organization which was originally
organized in 1930 in etroit, iichigan. inii claims to have
been selected by Allah, the Supreme Being, to lead the so-called
- Negro race out of slavenr in the wilderness of North America by
establishing an independent black nation in the United States.
Iembers~following IUHAlIAD's teachings and his interpretation of
the "Koran" believe there is no such thing as a Negro; that the so-
called Negroes are slaves of the white race, referred to as "white
devils," in the United States; and that the white race, bncue of
its exploitation of the so-called Negroes, must and will Le des-
troyed in the approaching War of Armageddon."
In the past, officials and members of the N01, including
MUHAMMAD, have refused to register under the provisions of the
Selective Service Acts and have declared that members owe no
allegiance to the United States.
On Hay 5, 1958, the first source advised IUHAIMAD had,
upon advice of legal counsel, tempered his personal statements and
instrnctions to his ninisters concerning the principles oi his
organization in order to avoid possible prosecution by the United
States Government; however, he did not indicate any fundamental
changes in the teachings of his organization. .. 3.
On lay 7, 1964, a third source advised IUMAIMAD had,
early in July, 1958, decided to de-emphasize the religious aspects
of the teachings of Islam and to stress the economic benefits to
be derived by those Negroes who joined the ROI. This policy change
according to IUHAIIAD, would help him acquire additional followers
and create more interest in his programs.

Islam F01! is a group mithin the Nation or Islam ROI! composed
of male members of the ROI. The purpose oi the POI is to protect
officials and property oi the ROI, assure compliance of members
with I01 teachings, and to prepare for the "Iar oi Armageddon."
Horrors of the F61 ire required to participate in military drill
and are afforded the opportunity to engage in Judo training.
The POI is governed by a military system wherein the members
are controlled by general orders similar to those issued by
regular military organizations.

On lay 19, 1960, a source advised that the Ihslim Girls
Training HGT! is a group within the-Nation of Islam R01! and is
composed of all female members of the N01. The IGT is similar in
structure to the Fruit of Islam POI!, which is composed of male
members of the N01, in that the IGT has officers similar to
military organizations to whom other female members are account-
able. IGT members receive instructions in homemaking, hygiene,
calisthenics, and other subjects such as Iuslim history and the
English language. There also exists a Junior IGT, which is
composed of female members of the N01 who are between the ages
of 15 and 19 and who are afforded military-type drill.
Since 1957, various officers and "sisters" of the IGT
have, at meetings of the IGT, used the term IGT so that it also
means General Civilization Class. General Civilization Class
refers to classes conducted within the IGT,

Temple of Islam No. 2., 5335 South Greenwood, Chicago, Illinois.
On lay 7, 1964, another source advised that the IGT
is a group within the N01 which is composed of all female
members of the N01. The IGT is similar in structure to the
F01, which is composed of male members of the ROI. In theory,
the HGT exists in all Temples of the R01 and is patterned after
the HGT at Iuhammad's Temple of Islam Ho. 2, Chicago. General
Civilization Class refers to the collective group of classes held
within the HGT.
