pending PENTTBOM investigation.
Details: On 04/07/2004, SA and Det. attended
a meeting in San Diego with representatives from the San Diego
Field Office (SDFO) and from the New York Field Office/PENTTBOM
Team (PENTTBOM) to dis cuss captioned investigations.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the results
of the investigation conducted thus far by Los Angeles and to

meeting was attended by SA SA SSA
, SA and SA of the SDFO,
SA and LAPD Detective of the Los Angles
Field Office (LAFO) and SA of PENTTBOM Team.
During a September 2004 meeting Los Angeles was
assigned vari ous tasks. The following is a summary of the
disposition of these tasks and a summary of relevant topics
discussed at the meeting identified by Field Office:
LOS ANGELES
1. Send photographs of the unknown male seen in the June 2000
LAX videotape to det ainees (in -country and overseas) for
identification.
On 10/13/2004, Los Angeles submitted an E.C. to FBIHQ,
Counterterrorism Division (CTD) requesting that photographs of
three unknown males depicted at Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX) on 06/10/200 0 with 9/11 hijackers Khaled Al -Midhar
(Al-Midhar) and Nawaf Al -Hazmi (Al -Hazmi) at LAX screening areas
be shown to multiple detainees. On April 1, 2005, Los Angeles
contacted CTD to requested the status of the October request and
was advised that the pho tos had not been sent to the detainees
because they were not in the correct format. On 04/11/2005, Los
Angeles provided CTD with an additional copy of the photographs
in the requested format. Los Angeles will continue to follow
up with CTD to determine t he results of the request.
2. Conduct interview and polygraph of former
Ellsworth Elmer Black (Black) regarding his statements that Mohdar
Abdullah (Mohdar) had advance knowledge of the 9/11 plot.
A review of the polygraph report reveal ed that Black passed the
polygraph examination when asked two questions. One question
was whether Modhar said he had met the hijackers and the other
question was if Mohdar said he had given two of the hijackers
a ride. Additional follow -up questions were not asked during
the interview to address more specifically Mohdar's exact comments
regarding his interactions with the hijackers. Los Angeles will
attempt to re -interview Black to address these areas not covered
during the polygraph interview.

4. Analysis of Mohdar's pocket litter was conducted and review
of significant items was discussed at the meeting. For Los

Travel in Los Angeles.
PENTTBOM TEAM/NEW YORK
1. Review o f the evidence seized in the United Kingdom including
the computer hard drives and analysis of relevant email addresses
is ongoing. SA will advise as information is obtained
related to Al -Bayoumi's hard drive and email accounts. SA
will set appropriate leads as warranted.
2. During the meeting it was identified that Mohdar had been in
contact with various telephone numbers in Hamburg, Germany,

follow-up on the Ham burg telephone connections and will advise
of the results related to Mohdar.
3. In reference to the unknown Yemeni male named
who met with Mohdar, Al -Hazmi and Al -Midhar in Los Angeles, SA

Angeles case agents for review. Los Angeles requested copies
of documents in the file which will be provided by San Diego.
3. Analysis of Abdullah's pocket litter.
San Diego advised that analysis and review of Abdullah's pocket
litter is ongoing.
4. San Diego indicated that a review of Abdullah's
bank records did not reveal any suspici ous activity. An
additional review will be made to determine if Abdullah used a
debit card to disclose when he may have been in Los Angeles.
San Diego SA advised that the Abdullah's original
bank records were provided to the PENTTBOM team as part of the
discovery project. The number was provided and
PENTTBOM advised that copies of the records would be forwarded
to Los Angeles and San Diego to allow for a complete review of
the transactions.
5. Request was made that San D iego prepare a
comprehensive time line and analysis of Abdullah's activities.
The analysis would include Abdullah's telephone activity, debit
card activity, significant events and information from source,
witness and subject interviews similar to the work product
prepared for the Al -Bayoumi investigation.
SAN DIEGO OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:
SDFO agents provided summaries of many San Diego
current and former subjects and Al -Ribat Mosque attendees
including
, and Alaqui. The Al -Ribat Mosque was discussed and
individuals associated with the mosque to assist Los Angeles with
future asset tasking.

Islamic marriage ceremony was performed by Sheikh Fahd Al -Thumairy
at the King Fahd Mosque in Culver City, CA (possibly during the
Summer of 2001). Oualid Ben Omrane and Abdullah reportedly
witnessed the ceremony. The State of California does not
recognize the Islamic ceremony as a legal marriage. SA
advised that he was gathering information about for
a possible interview.
PENTTBOM TEAM/NE W YORK
ASSIGNED TASKS:
1. Review of the evidence seized in the United
Kingdom including the computer hard drives and analysis of
relevant email addresses is ongoing. SA previously
advised that as information was obtained related to Al -Bayoumi's
hard drive and email accounts, SA would set appropriate
leads as warranted.
2. During the previous meeting it was identified
that Abdullah had been in contact with various telephone numbers

(LNU) who met with Abdullah, Al -Hazmi and Al -Midhdar in

she would research whether the 9/11 Commission conducted any
follow-up investigation or interviews to identify SSA
advised that she w ould contact SA for an update
on this request.
4. While in San Diego SSA requested that
Abdullah's bank records currently in discovery, be located and
copied. On 11/08/2005, a copy of these records were provided
to San Diego and Lo s Angeles.
NEW YORK - OTHER ITEMS DISCUSSED:
SSA advised that string searches of all
email addresses could be conducted. SDFO and LAFO were advised
to forward any email addresses to PENTTBOM for searches to be
conducted.
While at the meeting SSA provided a PONY
EC to be used to send questions to top Al -Qaeda detainees.
Detainee interviews were discussed and individuals who are
cooperative. The name of an FBI agent detailed to was
provided as a contact person to assist with detainee interviews.

while he resided in San Diego.
3. A review of the San Diego A nwar Alaqui investigation
will be conducted including review of his telephone activity while
he lived in San Diego prior to relocating to Falls Church, VA.
4. A time line will be prepared for Mohdar Abdullah
including analysis of significant dates, wi th analysis of debit
card activity, telephone toll records and source reporting similar
to the EC prepared for the Omar Al -Bayoumi investigation.
5. A review of telephone records for Texaco service
station where Abdullah and Al -Hazmi worked will be conducted.
San Diego will consider issuing a subpoena requesting toll records
for the missing months.
6. Follow up to identify (LNU) a Saudi/Yemeni
whom Nawaf Al -Hazmi brought to live with at Abdussattar Shaikh 's
(Shaikh) residence in San Diego. Shaikh discovered that Dali
was in the U.S. illegally and asked him to leave. is believed
to have moved to Utah and may have opened up a 99 Cents store.
San Diego will obtain subscriber information for Utah telephone
numbers associated with in an attempt to identify him.

MORE BACKGROUND:
The investigation of the San Diego subjects commenced
within hours of Flight 77 crashing into the Pentagon, when a car was
found parked at the hourly lot in Dulles International Airport on 9/11/2001
that was registered to NAWAF AL -HAZMI, one of the passengers on Flight
77. It was quickly determined that the vehicle was registered by AL -HAZMI
at , in Lemon Grove, a suburb of San Diego,
California. Investigation by San Diego FO found the building was owned
by ABDUSSATTAR SHAIKH, who was renting a room therein to OMER SALMAIN
SALEH BAKARBASHAT (aka OMAR BAKARBASHAT), DOB , SSAN
. BAKARBASHAT, a foreign student from Y emen who had dropped
out of college and was out -of-status, admitted to associating with
AL-HAZMI and AL -MIHDHAR and was arrested and later
deported for immigration fraud. BAKARBASHAT further identified MIHDAR
MOHAMMAD AL -MIHDAR ZAID (aka MOHDAR MOHAMED ABDOULAH, aka MOHDAR
ABDULLAH), DOB , as a close associate of AL -MIHDHAR and AL -HAZMI.
ABDULLAH in turn admitted meeting the hijackers at a San Diego mosque
in early 2000, where OMAR AL -BAYOUMI tasked ABDULLAH with acclimating
them to the U.S. At the time, ABDULLAH was residing at
St, , La Mesa, another San Diego suburb, with several others.
The hijackers were housed, through AL -BAYOUMI, at the
Parkwood Apartments, 6401 Mt. Ada Rd, San Diego, CA 97111, just
off Balboa Avenue, in an apartment in the same complex where AL -BAYOUMI
had been residing with his wife and three children (in Apt at 6333
Mount Ada Rd) since September 1999. AL -BAYOUMI was a Saudi national
who entered the U.S. in 1993 attending school in San
Diego. He acted as manager/facilities supervisor for the MASJID
AL-MADINA AL -MUNAWAR MOSQUE, 511 Magnolia Ave. South, El Cajon, California
(aka the Kurdish Community Islamic Center, or KCIA), but claimed on his
rental paperwork at Parkwood to be a student supported by his family

As noted above, at AL -BAYOUMI's request, MOHDAR ABDULLAH
helped AL -HAZMI obtain a driver's license, a car, a Social Security number
and enrollment in a Florida flight training school and arranged local
instruction in English. ABDULLAH also accompanied AL -HAZMI on June 10,
2000 as he drove KHALID AL -MIHDHAR to the Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX) to catch a flight to Muscat, Oman vi a Frankfurt, Germany, to visit
his wife and new -born daughter. AL -HAZMI then moved out of the Parkwood
Apartments into the afore -mentioned building
owned by SHAIKH, which SHAIKH claims the hijackers found via an ad he
had placed a t the Islamic Center of San Diego ( , Serial
). AL-HAZMI and ABDULLAH continued to maintain close contact,
visiting each other, dining and even working together washing cars at
a Texaco gas station at , La Mesa, CA 91941. BAKARBASHAT
also worked at the same gas station. Soon after the arrival of the eventual

Flight 77 hijacker/ pilot, HANI HANJOUR, on 12/8/2000, AL -HAZMI introduced
HANJOUR to ABDULLAH and the hijackers departed for La Mesa, Arizona days
after HANJOUR's S an Diego arrival.
AL-BAYOUMI introduced AL -HAZMI and AL -MIHDHAR to the
Saudi-Yemeni community in San Diego during a party at his apartment and brought
them to the AL -RIBAT AL-ISLAMI CENTER, a mosque at 7173 Saranac St, La Mesa,
CA 92115. The Imam of the Mosque was ANWAR NASSER AULAQI (aka SHEIKH ANWAR
AL-AWLAKI, aka ABU BAKR AL SIDDIQ, aka ANWAR AL -AWLAKI) DOB ,
the subject of , and as it was later discovered, a childhood
neighbor of MOHDAR ABDULLAH in Yemen . In January of 2006, the FBI learned
via photo comparison that AULAQI was also identical with Yemeni
Extremist ANWAR AL -AWLAKI ABU ATIQ , who was incarcerated in June 2006 by
the Government of Yemen in connection with a plot to attack oil interests.
AULAQI was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico to immigrant Yemeni
parents, who returned with him to their native land when AULAQI was about 11
years old. AULAQI's father, NASSER AL -AULAQI, eventually became the President
of Sana'a University and visited the U.S. .
ANWAR AULAQI meanwhile, returned to the U.S. in 1990 to attend school in
Colorado and moved to San Diego in late 1995. AULAQI resided in San Diego,
preaching at the AL -RIBAT Mosque, until at least August 2000, then tr aveled
to Yemen and returned to California on 10/23/2000 -- two weeks after the Cole
bombing -- and moved to Virginia in March, 2001. AULAQI served as Imam of the
DAR AL-HIJRAH Mosque in Falls Church, before returning to Yemen in March, 2002,
where he has remained aside from a brief sojourn in October -November 2002 in
Virginia, Santa Clara and San Diego, California.
While it is known that AULAQI had contacts with NAWAF AL -HAZMI
and KHALID AL -MIHDHAR in San Diego, California and may have had contacts with
AL-HAZMI and HANI HANJOUR at the DAR AL -HIJRAH Mosque in Virginia, AULAQI's
exact relationship with the hijackers remains unclear.

complex as two of the terrorist hijackers, determined to be Nawaf Al-
Hazmi and Khalid Al-Midhar.
2. BASSNAN admitted that he would "see" AL-HAZMI and AL-
MIDHAR at the apartment complex when BASSNAN, AL-HAZMI, and AL-MIDHAR
were all living there.
NOTE: An interview preparing the transcript
about the meaning of the word "see" in context which it
was used, determined that BASSNAN at least admitted that
he knew who they were, saw them around the complex, but
did not necessarily associate with or engage in
conversations with AL-MIDHAR and AL-HAZMI. However, the
use of the word "see" in the context did not preclude
BASSNAN having a more close association with AL-MIDHAR and
AL-HAZMI and possibly talking directly with AL-MIDHAR and
AL-HAZMI. BASSNAN provided no further clarification on
how extensive the relationship with the AL-MIDHAR and AL-
HAZMI was.
3. BASSNAN acknowledged and spoke frankly that he was good
friends with Omar Al-Bayoumi who did live with AL-MIDHAR and AL-
HAZMI, provided references for AL-MIDHAR and AL-HAZMI to rent an
apartment, and provided financial support to AL-MIDHAR and AL-HAZMI.
NOTE: In an earlier debrief of Source, Source positively
identified the picture of Omar Al-Bayoumi who was arrested
in Great Britain on September 21, 2001. In the post
consensual meet debrief of September , 2001, Source
positively affirmed that during the meeting, BASSNAN and
Source discussed and referred to an "Omar," and that the
"Omar" they were referring to is the same "Omar" Source
positively identified as AL-BAYOUMI.
Author believes, based on the debriefs of Source and a
review of the transcript, that this inconsistency is not

(7) An anonymous caller, concerned for their safety if their
cooperation with law enforcement were discovered, within the last few
months observed members of BASSNAN's family answering telephone calls
on the BASSNAN's home telephone (hereinafter TARGET
TELEPHONE #2). The anonymous caller, who understands Arabic, said
that BASSNAN's wife and other members of BASSNAN's family answered
several telephone calls on TARGET TELEPHONE #2, spoke in short
conversations in Arabic with incoming callers telling them in
paraphrased summary "not now, call back later." The anonymous caller
characterized the actions by members of BASSNAN's family as unusual,
suggesting that members of BASSNAN's family could not speak openly
with the incoming caller in the presence of other people. Source has
most often observed BASSNAN engaging conversations with others on
TARGET TELEPHONE #1, but also confirmed that BASSNAN also uses TARGET
TELEPHONE #2. On September , 2001, Source engaged with a
consensually recorded telephone conversation with BASSNAN's wife over
TARGET TELEPHONE #2. During that conversation, BASSNAN's wife
Source then
immediately called and spoke with BASSNAN on TARGET TELEPHONE #2.

Pursuant to a Federal Grand Jury subpoena, the following
information was received via facsimile from Priceline.com:
On December 13, 2000, at 00:08, an airline ticket purchase was
made on Priceline.com . A ticket was purchased for Mohdar Abdullah,
El Cajon, California, telephone
or The ticket purchased was for Trans World Airlines
(TWA) flight 56, departing San Diego December 15, 2000 at 3:05 PM and arriving
at St. Louis, December 15, 2000 at 8:37 PM, departing St. Louis on flight
320 on December 15, 2000 at 9:46 PM, arriving at the final desti nation of
Detroit, Michigan, on December 16, 0:12 AM. The return portion of the ticket
was for TWA flight 95, departing Detroit on January 1 at 7:00 AM and arriving
St. Louis on January 1 at 7:46 AM, departing St.Louis on flight 203 on January
1 at 8:55 A M, arriving San Diego on January 1 at 11:00 AM.
The Priceline.com records indicate these tickets were purchased
with credit card , account holder Mohdar Abdullah,
El Cajon, California.
On April 9, 2001, at 20:12, four airline tickets were purchased
on Priceline.com, also with credit card . All four tickets
were for United Airline (UA) flight 444, departing San Diego on April 26,
2001 at 11:27 AM, and arriving at La G uardia on April 26, 2001 at 9:26 PM.
The return portion of the flight was UA Flight 1607, departing La Guardia
on May 30, 2001 at 2:40 PM, arriving in San Diego on May 30, 2001 at 7:23
PM. The names of the four ticket holders are Ibrahim Ibrahim, Nafisa Ib rahim,
Mohammed Ibrahim, and Mohdar Abdullah.
Photocopies of the facsimile provided by Priceline.com are
attached.

On October 11, 2001, the writer received San Diego Community
College District school records for OMAR AL -BAYOUMI.
The records were provided as a result of Federal Grand Jury
Subpoena issued on September 19, 2001 by the United States
District Court, Southern District of California.
San Diego Community College District, 3375 Camino del Rio South, San
Diego, California, telephone , provided student records
for OMAR AL -BAYOUMI.
The original documents and a copy of Federal Grand Jury Subpoena
have been enclosed in a 1A envelope as evidence and assigned
the following number .

On or about February 4, 2000, Al-Bayoumi came into the
Parkwood office and paid for the deposit and the first month's rent for
Al-Hazmi and Al-Mihdhar, by furnishing with a Bank of America
Cashier's Check number . The cashier's check was in the
total amount of $1,558.00, which represented $775.00 for the deposit,
$8.00 for the insurance and $775.00 for February's rent. When Al-
Bayoumi brought in the cashier's check he was by himself. Al-Bayoumi
stated that the cashier's check was for Al-Hazmi's and Al-Mihdhar's
apartment and he further stated that could trust him and that
he would take care of them. After all the paperwork was done and Al-
Hazmi and Al-Mihdhar were ready to move into apartment , Al-Bayoumi
said that they do things for their brothers, inferring that what Al-
Bayoumi was doing was culturally based. This statement was made almost
as an afterthought.
was under the impression that Al-Hazmi and Al-
Mihdhar were residing with Al-Bayoumi in his apartment while they were
waiting to move into apartment even though she never saw them
there.
After Al-Bayoumi paid for the deposit and first month's rent,
a second payment was made on or about February 15, 2000, in the form of
a Bank of America Cashier's Check number in the name of
Khalid Al-Mihdhar for $1,010.00. It was unknown why Al-Mihdhar paid
$1,010.00, when the rent was $775.00.
In April 2000, Al-Mihdhar paid for the rent by writing a
check from his personal checking account at the Bank of America,
account number , in the amount of $478.00.
In May 2000, Al-Mihdhar paid for the rent from the same
personal checking account, however he wrote two checks one in the
amount of $775.00 for the rent, and one in the amount of $8.00 for the
insurance.
Approximately six months after Al-Hazmi and Al-Mihdhar moved
into apartment Al-Bayoumi began traveling a lot. Al-Bayoumi was
gone for months at a time.
When obtained the documentation to furnish it to
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), determined that
someone had reviewed and copied the February 2000 deposit slip and
accounting ledger with Al-Hazmi's and Al-Mihdhar's payment information,
due to the fact that the staple had been removed and re-stapled, as
well as someone made a copy of the deposit slip and stapled the copy to

where to find these files and knew the accounting system were
the Parkwood Apartment Complex, who
left in 2000 and who resigned
on September 17, 2001.
Attached and considered part of this communication are the
payment documents and ledgers supporting the payment of the deposit and
rent for the apartment that Al-Hazmi and Al-Mihdhar stayed in from
February 5, 2000 through May 31, 2000. The original copies will be
maintained in the 1A section of this file.

Synopsis: To document San Diego's contact with the Metropolitan Police
Service (MPS), also known as New Scotland Yard, and San Diego's authority
to disseminate information to the MP S with regard to the captioned
investigation.
Details: On September 21, 2001, OMAR AL -BAYOUMI was detained in the
United Kingd om by agents of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) at
the request of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI.) San Diego's
request was transmitted by EC to Legat Subsequent to the
detention of AL -BAYOUMI, San Diego SA and New
York SA traveled to in order to assist Legat
liaison efforts between the FBI and the MPS. In the course
of their investigation, agents of the MPS interviewed the subject and
searched his home, office and vehicl e. Information obtained by the MPS
was disseminated to the FBI through liaison with Legat . That
information was covered under electronic communication previously
prepared by SA .
Upon completing their investigation of OMAR AL -BAYOUMI, agents
of the MPS coordinated official travel from London to Ne w York with Legat
and New York SA . The MPS agents had meetings during
a one-week period with New York case agents and New York Federal
prosecutors. SA advised San Diego that the MPS agents involved
in the investigation of OMAR AL -BAYOUMI would be traveling to San Diego
in order to further the FBI's investigation. SA advised SA
that the United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of
New York, had authorized the dissemination of information to the MPS
for the purpose of furthering the case being pursued in New York. SA
was advised that this authorization extended to Federal Grand
Jury Material.

ALBAYOUMI and his family were from Saudi Arabia and
possibly lived in the Clairemont Mesa area of San
Diego, California. Alatt as knew ALBAYOUMI
through the Balboa Avenue mosque and in his
apartment Alattas frequently helped ALBAYOUMI with
computers. reported Alattas did not like ALBAYOUMI
and believed ALBAYOUMI worked for the Saudi government t o
watch the actions of Saudis in the United States.

Islamic Center of San Diego, (ICSD). Shaikh
identified a photo of OMAR ALBAYOUMI, whom he
became acquainted with in 1994 when Shaikh was
teaching at the American Commonwealth University.
Shaikh described ALBAYOUMI as follows: ALBAYOUMI was
in the U.S. using a Saudi Arabian passport, because
of his facial features, he is possibly of Egyptian
descent. ALBAYOUMI appeared to be
approximately 40 to 45 years old.
Shaikh believed
ALBAYOUMI always had a significant source of supply of
money and observed him driving a new Toyota. ALBAYOUMI
was a member of Toastmasters, a public speaking club
in San Diego. ALBAYOUMI was charismatic, charming and
didn’t conceal his attempts to attain leadership
roles within the San Diego Muslim community. ALBAYOUMI
had expressed an interest in becoming a citizen, which
may have been just a ploy. ALBAYOUMI socialized with
Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdar (spelling should be
Almihdhar). Alhazmi disclosed to Shaikh,
ALBAYOUMI was a spy for the Saudi Government and
directed Shaikh not to socialize with too much

On February 15, 2001, Omar Abdi Mohamed, date of birth
in Somalia, residing at La Mesa, California,
telephone was interviewed by Special Agents (SAs)
Mohamed was advised of the
identities of the interviewing SAs and the purpose of the interview.
Mohamed advised as follows; (Reference
Mohamed stated he wants to cooperate with the FBI and is
willing to submit to an interview, without an attorney present. Mohamed
noted he is from a rural area in the southern part of Somalia and his
family is not considered wealthy. Mohamed's father encouraged him to
pursue his education and as a result, he received a business
undergraduate degree from a government institution in Africa (not
further identified). Mohamed commented he is happy to be in the United
States and although he has family in Somalia, he has no desire to
return, noting that if he did return, Somali warlords would surely
kidnap and kill him. He added there is little hope for Somalia due to
the fact many Somalians are addicted to an indigenous drug, a leafy
substance, that they chew on to get high. Mohamed pointed out that as a
consequence, the Somalia family structure has been totally destroyed.
Mohamed has not seen the movie "Black Hawk Down" but he knows the story
of the US involvement in Somalia. He believes the US tried to do the
right thing by feeding starving Somalians, but he complained the US
rolled out the red carpet for the Somali warlord, Aidid, who along with
his son, killed many innocent people.
Mohamed is currently employed by the San Diego School
District as an advisor and youth counselor. In addition, Mohamed works
with the Somali community at the Somali Community Center, 4979
University Avenue, San Diego. He observed that many American blacks do
not understand the Somali culture and as a result there has been
problems in the schools. Mohamed has worked to educate people about the
Somali culture and his efforts have helped to reduce the tensions
between the cultures.
Educationally, Mohamed is seeking his Masters and is focused
on administration of HMOs (Health Maintenance Organization).

Concerning the 9/11/01 attacks, Mohamed stated he is upset by
the events of 9/11/01 and he is worried that these events have given
Muslims a bad name. Mohamed heard the speculation that Usama bin Laden
is hiding in Somalia, but he dismissed the rumors, noting that it would
be impossible for bin Laden, or anyone from a different culture, to
hide out in Somalia. Mohamed commented that he is very fortunate to
live in the US, adding that the only problem he has ever had was when a
black guy stuck a gun to his head and robbed him of $5 in a New York
subway.
Mohamed was shown 29 photos depicting the 9/11/01 hijackers
and their associates. He identified photo #20 (Omar Albayoumi) as a
Saudi he knew by the name of Bayoumi, who was associated with the
Medina Mosque in El Cajon and the Islamic Center of San Diego. Mohamed
described Bayoumi as a social butterfly who seemed to know everyone.
Bayoumi performed various tasks at the mosque, including answering the
phone. Mohamed stated he did not know Bayoumi well, but they had a few
conversations in person and on the telephone. Mohamed recalled that on
one occasion, Bayoumi offered to supply the Somali community with
Korans and on another occasion, Mohamed requested Bayoumi to ask the
Kurdish Mosque if they would donate money to Somali refugee camps, in
Kenya.
Mohamed also selected photo # 28 (Mohdar Abdullah) and
identified him as Mohdar, a Somali/Yemeni refugee. Mohamed saw Mohdar
at the Ribad Mosque and also the Somali Community Center. Mohamed
recalled that sometime in 1999(?), Mohdar appeared at the Somali
Community Center, claimed to be a Somalian and asked for an official
letter identifying him as a Somalian national. Mohdar was told he
needed two witnesses that would vouch for him before such a letter
would be issued. Mohamed does not recall if he, or someone else at the
Somali Community Center, dealt with Mohdar and provided him with the
letter.
Mohamed advised that he is willing to cooperate and if he
hears anything about terrorist activities, he would contact the FBI.

tail-winds which can be significant at high altitudes). At an
altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet, one would be able to see for
approximately 100 miles on a clear day and even be able to
identify various landmarks.
As a pilot, had access to maps that had the
mileage listed on the legs between various waypoints along
flight paths. These waypoints typically had a latitude and
longitude associated with them. If one wanted to get the
mileage (in nautical miles (nm)) along a flight path, one could
either add the mileage of the legs between the waypoints or
measure by hand the distance of the flight path. If he were to
calculate the distance along a flight path by hand using these
waypoints, he would have started from the beginning and not
worked backwards starting from the destination. When measuring
a distance by hand between waypoints on these maps, one could be
accurate within 0.5 nm or better.
In a case where a pilot would have to change a plane's
course, such as on 9/11, the pilot would not necessarily need to
disable the autopilot for this type of course redirection, and
could even utilize autopilot after the change in course.

official, AL-BAYOUMI suggested that he and travel to a local restaurant to have lunch. AL-BAYOUMI and DYSON had lunch at the
Gourmet Restaurant, located at 10863 Venice Boulevard.
