Butte Falls Council appoints new member BUTTE FALLS -- General Store owner Debbie McConnel was appointed to the Butte Falls Council Wednesday. She replaces Ethel Hoppe, who resigned after 10 years on the council. During Wednesday's council meeting, members also discussed a request by two property owners that the town vacate East Main Street, which dead-ends near the Community Hall. City Recorder Lori Paxton will research the street vacation, including the need to keep 20 feet for a right of way, and bring the findings back to the council next month. In other action, the council approved an ordinance to change its meeting dates to the third Tuesday of every month, Paxton said. Next month, however, the council will meet Dec. 14 because of the holidays. The council also approved a change in the way health insurance premiums are deducted from the paychecks of the two full-time Butte Falls employees who qualify for medical insurance, Paxton said. The premiums will be taken out of gross instead of net salaries, which will be a savings for the employees. The town's provider is City County Insurance Services.
