I hope it is something much better than the star thistle and blackberry vine weed patch at the McAndrews Road/Foothill Road overpass. — Gary E., Medford Star thistle grows in such abundance locally, Gary, that we should just go ahead and embrace this evil weed and make it the official Jackson County flower. It would go well with the prickly nature of some of our crotchety inhabitants, present company excepted, of course. Yes, that has been quite the project putting signals at that intersection. It seemed to go on forever. As a condition for development of the former Cedar Links golf course, the city is requiring a new intersection at Foothill Road and Cedar Links Drive to handle the additional traffic. The intersection will also be designed to accommodate four traffic lanes and a turn lane that have been proposed for Foothill Road, which traffic engineers want to upgrade to provide a more viable north-south route through the valley. As to your question, Gary, we have an answer that you won’t find satisfying. “There are no landscape plans,” says Cory Crebbin, Medford Public Works director. He said landscaping wasn’t required by the city. As adjacent properties are developed, that will be the time that landscaping is installed, Crebbin said. He said it is an expensive option to require landscaping. “It’s not just a matter of digging holes and putting bushes out there,” he said. Crebbin said water lines and electrical connections are required for most landscaping efforts. So, Gary, you’ll just have to wait for a few years before the intersection looks nice.
