In Their Own Words: David Burch By Robert Hastings Updated: Apr 08, 2022 02:14 PM A A Meet David Burch, a candidate running for Governor in the May 19th primary. David is a resident of Haines, OR, and is a first-time candidate for running in the republican primary. The Mail Tribune is proud to present "The Candidates for Governor: In Their Own Words". Our producers have conducted interviews with the candidates. All were welcome to sit with us at the Mail Tribune in Medford or talk with us via an open-ended Zoom meeting if not traveling to Medford. All the candidates are registered to run state-wide in the primary on Tuesday, May 19th. As a public service, the Mail Tribune is making the over 30 hours of candidate interviews available to all. After Primary Day on May 19th, we will return the videos to the exclusive use of our digital subscribers. This ambitious project is unlike any you'll find anywhere in Oregon, from any news organization, print, broadcast or digital. With over 30 candidates, we took full advantage of the freedom the Internet offers that newspapers (space), and television (time), cannot provide. With no restriction on time or space, we are able to bring you the unedited answers each candidate provided us when we asked a series of questions, all the same, and all in the same order. Candidates were not told to "wrap up," or that they'd run out of time. The result is an unprecedented video library of candidates answering the same questions, without interruption or editing. Each answer is full and everything the candidate had to say. There's no interference or analysis, about how you think each candidate responds. We hope this collection of videos is something you find useful as you consider the candidates. The interviews were done at the Mail Tribune newsroom in Medford, or if they were not traveling to Medford, we arranged for Zoom interviews. All the interviews were done in late March and early April, but not published until all were completed, so no candidate could see what other candidates might have said. We then posted every interview at the same time, on Friday, April 8th, so there were no favorites, and well in advance of the May 19th primary. We will be using our social media pages to get the word out about these interviews, and beginning Sunday, April 10th, we will randomly choose 5 or 6 candidates to promote on our social media pages each day and highlight that we have all the interviews in one place online. We literally chose the names out of a hat to be fair about who gets promoted each day, but again, all the candidates are available all at once. We hope you find this useful, and we welcome your comments and criticisms. Thank you for supporting the Mail Tribune. It's the kind of commitment we alone bring, and nobody is duplicating in the state, let alone the Southern Oregon region we serve. Due to the open time and open space on the Internet, we let each candidate running for Governor in the May 18 primary answer the same sets of questions posed by us. Candidates did not have the questions in advance. And while they were all interviewed in a tight two-week window (we conducted 30+ interviews with candidates that registered to run), no candidate "leaked" the questions to other candidates. What we've built is the most comprehensive library of candidates talking, in their own words, so that each voter as FULL access to each candidate on all the big topics of our day.... Our producers posed questions, but then let the candidate speak, no clock, no interruptions. Each interview went longer than 40 minutes, some prove themselves to be "talkers" and went 90 minutes talking about their ability and aspirations. Others were shorter and succinct.
