[Photo courtesy of Josephine County Sheriff’s Office] Two men are facing criminal charges after they tried to use a local trucking company to ship approximately 600 pounds of marijuana to Illinois, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. Moaied Maali, 41, and Arfat Najjar, 43, are being held in the Josephine County Jail without bail on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful delivery of marijuana, according to jail records. After the trucking company realized what the two men were trying to do, the driver unloaded his truck and told the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office where a pallet of marijuana and the two responsible for the shipment could be found, the sheriff’s office said. [Photo courtesy of Josephine County Sheriff’s Office] The marijuana had been packaged into cardboard boxes and wrapped with plastic wrap for shipping in the truck, according to photos from the bust. The sheriff’s office said the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team responded to the location and contacted Maali and Najjar. Detectives located and seized the 600 pounds of marijuana and $25,000 in cash, which was later seized by Homeland Security Investigations, a federal agency. Information was not immediately available about why the two men were allegedly shipping the marijuana to Illinois. Recreational use of marijuana is legal in both Oregon and Illinois.
