Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 13, 2006 Computer classes have begun By MEGHAN O’FLAHERTY For the Mail Tribune The Jackson County Library is offering more free computer classes between Jan. 10 and March 24. These classes are very popular so be sure to register early — they fill up fast! Classes will be held in one of the Rogue Community College computer labs on the second floor of the Central Library in Medford, 205 S. Central Ave. Prior registration is required. Call 774-8689 to register. Classes being offered are: Using the Mouse: Learn to move and control the mouse in order to perform basic computer functions such as clicking, double-clicking, and scrolling. Jan. 19: 2 - 3:30 p.m. Advertisement Feb. 2: 3 - 4:30 p.m. Feb. 14: 2 - 3:30 p.m. March 2: 2 - 3:30 p.m. March 14: 2 - 3:30 p.m. Searching the Library’s Catalog (Basic) : Use the computerized library catalog to find all types of material in the Jackson County, Josephine County and Rogue Community College libraries. Learn to search for a book, video, CD or cassette by title or author, locate the call number for the desired material, place a hold on items that are not currently available in your branch and check your own library account. Jan. 25: 2:30 - 4 p.m. March 21: 2 - 3:30 p.m. Heritage Quest: Learn how to search and browse the Heritage Quest genealogy database from home or at the library. Using Heritage Quest, you can search the United States federal census, 1790-1930, as well as many digitized family and local history books. March 24: 2 - 4 p.m. Setting Up a Free E-Mail Account: Learn to set up a free e-mail account, access your account, read your e-mail and send e-mail to others. Feb. 8: 2:30 - 4 p.m. March 7: 3 - 4:30 p.m. Internet Searching for Seniors: Learn how the Internet works and how to use a Web browser to find specific Internet sites. Explore Web sites of interest to some seniors and get practical tips for using search engines and Web directories. Feb. 22: 3 - 5 p.m. NoveList Database: Find great books to read! Search plots, characters, read-alikes, award winners and more with this wonderful tool. Feb. 3: 2:30 - 4 p.m. For more information call the Central Library Reference Department at 774-8689.
