Firefighters have constructed a fireline around the south and west sides of the fire, but significant spread is anticipated today to the east in both Oregon and California, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. Containment was estimated this morning at 10 percent. The fire has spread significantly into Klamath County, and the blaze is exhibiting extreme behavior, with spotting and fast, unpredictable movements. Officials expect the fire will spread mainly to the east, laterally along the Klamath River, and is threatening to jump across the river. The Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office has structural task forces protecting homes within the Green Springs Fire District area. The structural protection is being provided by agencies from across the state. A Level 3 evacuation notice remains in place for the Copco Road area, and a Level 1 evacuation notice remains in place for Highway 66 from the Green Springs Fire Station to the 2000 block on Highway 66. Highway 66 is open, and the Green Springs area is accessible, but motorists are urged to watch for fire vehicles on the road. In California, fire officials said the Fallcreek Water Supply for the city of Yreka is at risk. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered of all BLM campgrounds along the Klamath River and the community of Copco in Siskiyou County. A community meeting held in Green Springs yesterday was attended by 50 people, officials said.
