Yost lifts Rogue River in rout, 44-22 CORVALLIS -- Mindi Yost nearly outscored Myrtle Point by herself as Rogue River walked to a 44-22 win in the fourth-place semifinals of the girls Class 3A high school basketball tournament Friday. Yost poured in 21 points as the Chietains (18-5) advanced to the fourth-place final against Stayton (21-2) at 11 a.m. today. "She's an incredible competitor," Rogue River coach Dan Mortinson said of the senior standout. "Coming off a disappointing game the previous day she just shined and showed her true greatness as a competitor by bouncing back." Yost was held to four points in Friday's 52-30 loss to The Dalles. Myrtle Point (20-6) scored just four points in each of the first two quarters and trailed 20-8 at the half. Things didn't get much better in the third quarter, as coach Marty Stallard was literally left speechless by his team's play and could only stare his players down during one of four timeouts the Bobcats took in the period. The Bobcats turned the ball over 21 times, and shot just 18.5 percent from the field and one of 13 from the free-throw line. The game was in stark contrast to an earlier meeting between the two teams in January, when Myrtle Point broke open a three-point contest in the fourth quarter for a 47-27 victory. "We weren't really thinking revenge at all," Mortinson said. "We were really thinking about last night and redeeming ourselves." Rogue River managed a 20-point lead in the third quarter and never let that dip below 17 to close out the Bobcats. "They just didn't shoot well and looked a little tired," Mortinson said. "We got our transition break going and got some easy baskets to pull away." Mortinson said Stayton will have an advantage today considering its starting lineup has four girls at least 5-foot-10. Regardless, he said the Chieftains should not be overlooked. "We weren't drained completely at the end of (Friday's) game," he said. "I think we have some left here. We're feeling positive. "We're going to bring home some hardware no matter which way we go." Yost also grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out five assists. Allison Bailey added nine points for the Chieftains, while Alison Marland pulled down eight boards and Michelle Anderson dished out four assists. Shae Wright was limited to only eight points for Rogue River, but was a defensive force inside with eight blocked shots. Ashleigh Howard led the Bobcats with seven points.
