Medford boy trapped in car trunk in critical condition Wednesday Jun 28, 2017 at 8:58 AM Jun 28, 2017 at 10:49 AM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition from heat exhaustion after being found in the trunk of a car Tuesday night in west Medford. The boy's parents found him just after 7 p.m. in the 300 block of South Columbus Avenue, according to Medford police. Paramedics transported him to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, then to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, police said. The boy's parents discovered him in the trunk of their 2003 Honda Accord when one of them found a cellphone in the back seat the boy had been playing with, then heard a noise coming from the trunk, according to Medford police Lt. Kerry Curtis. The boy was "unresponsive," Curtis added. Police believe the child may have got into the trunk by accident by himself, though the investigation remains open. How he got into the trunk is still unknown. "We don’t even know that yet. We have not ruled out anything at this point," Curtis said. It isn't known how long the boy was in the trunk, though his whereabouts were unknown for anywhere from 40 minutes up to an hour, Curtis said. "The parents were unaware until they couldn't find him," a Medford police Facebook post said.
