Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend November 18, 2005 Eagle Point entry wins GingerBread Jubilee top prize A gingerbread rendition of Old MacDonald’s Barn was tempting enough to win the best of show award — and a $1,000 prize — in the third annual GingerBread Jubilee baking contest held Thursday. The elaborate creation by Rebecca Hill of Eagle Point topped 35 selections considered by a panel of 10 community judges. Competition was tough, said organizer Judy Barr. "They really stepped up this year," she said. "They are gorgeous." First place in the adult division went to a design team from Harry & David in Medford. "Santa’s Express" was created by Gene Monroe, Shannon Wheeler, and Alejandra Baltazar-Quarte. Their prize was $500. Second place went to "Polar Resort," created by Bryan Barge of Central Point, who took home a $250 award. Third prize went to "Kringle’s Korner," by Michelle Baker of Ashland. She won $100. The top prize, and $500, in the student category went to Nikki Kristich, 17, of Trail. Her entry was titled "Hamster & Commander." Advertisement Second prize went to "Rogue Valley Amusement Park," entered by the Rogue Valley Christian Church Mid-Hi Youth Group, ages 10 to 12. Their prize was $250. Third place went to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road," a creation by Marie Cox, 13, of Medford. Judges for this year’s event included radio personality Rosemary Harrington; architect Ken Ogden; cookbook author Diana Butts; Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Patricia Crain; Allen Anderson, chef at the Rogue Valley Manor; architect Stephen Miller; Sandy Dowling, owner of the Willows Inn; pastry chef Dana Keller of the Jacksonville Inn; artist Lesley Klecan; and Terry Dowling, executive chef at the Rogue Valley Country Club. Entries are on display from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Craterian Theater in downtown Medford. Admission is $2. The GingerBread Jubilee is an annual fundraiser for the theater. Last year’s event collected more than $50,000.
