GRANTS PASS Four injured in Grants Pass fifth-wheel explosion and fire Comment By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier MailTribune.com By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 15, 2016 at 3:53 PM By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 15, 2016 at 3:53 PM » Social News Police say four people were injured in an explosion and fire in a fifth-wheel trailer at Royal Trailer Park on Lewis Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors say they heard an explosion and saw a teenage girl on fire come out of the trailer in Unit 48 at the park, located on the south side of the Rogue River near Caveman Bridge. Keith Proctor, who lives two trailers down, said a man named Brian, his daughter and her boyfriend were at the trailer. Proctor heard the explosion, went outside and saw the teen girl come out on fire. “She looked like a ball of fire. Four or five people tried to get her on the ground,” Proctor said Monday. When flames were out, she was loaded into an ambulance. A woman who lives right next door had a similar story. “I heard this hideous bang, then some god-awful screaming,” said the woman, who wished to be anonymous. “I saw her standing in the doorway in flames. It was awful. The poor girl started running around in circles.” An adjacent fifth-wheel trailer in unit 47 was also destroyed in the blaze, leaving two adults and three children with no place to live. The American Red Cross responded Sunday night. “They’re ruined,” Proctor said. A news release from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said four people went to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. It didn’t list names, and without names, patient conditions are unavailable from hospitals because of privacy laws. According to Proctor, in addition to the seriously injured teenager, her boyfriend, and the man named Brian, another woman lived at the fifth-wheel in space 48. She was doing laundry away from the trailer and suffered smoke inhalation when she came back and tried to get her dog. The small dog was found between two mattresses unharmed, according to the press release. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with more information is asked to call Detective Jesse Meinerts at 541-450-6260.
