Alcohol likely involved in crash on Highway 140 Nov 13, 2007 12:00 AM A A Alcohol use likely contributed to a two-car crash Sunday that injured three people and shut down Highway 140 east of White City for more than an hour, Oregon State Police said Monday. Scott Michael Asberry, Sailennia Mae Pinazo and Kevin Paul Hawkins were transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where they remained early Monday, all in good condition. The crash occurred at 6:50 p.m. when a westbound 1996 Ford Contour driven by Asberry veered into the eastbound lane of Highway 140 near milepost 2. His age and address were not immediately available. An eastbound 1988 Mazda 929 driven by Pinazo, of Eagle Point, moved to the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid the Ford but was struck nearly head-on. Hawkins, also of Eagle Point, was a passenger in the Mazda. A preliminary investigation indicated that Asberry had been drinking alcohol before the accident.
