"A River Between Us" will open today at the Ashland Varsity Theatre and run there through Thursday. The film will be shown at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday and at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. For additional times, see catheatres.com. The film focuses on the Klamath River Basin's centuries-old water wars and the coalition that rose from it to orchestrate the on-going restoration there. Atkinson and co-producer Jeff Martin shot the film over two years and traveled along the entirety of the river's Oregon and California reaches, conducting 70 interviews with farmers, tribal members, power interests, anglers and others who are part of 42 organizations taking part in the restoration coalition. Atkinson and Martin say they intend the film to raise awareness of the complex issues engulfing the Klamath Basin and to start a national dialog about it. Atkinson, 44, of Central Point, is a former state senator and Oregon gubernatorial candidate. Atkinson says the film will be making the rounds at film festivals across the country this summer. OHA to host annual Young Oregon Hunters Day Kids 3 to 16 years old are invited to try their hands at archery, shotgunning, fishing and even tomahawk throwing during the annual Young Oregon Hunters Day scheduled Saturday, May 30, at the Denman Wildlife Area, 1495 E. Gregory Road, White City. The annual event is sponsored by the Rogue Valley Chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association as a way for kids to test-drive some of the aspects of the life and times afield or on the water. Opportunities at the free event will also include laser shooting and pelt identification, with free food and beverages available.
