James Anthony Winsbury was chased first by Oregon State Police, then by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Jacksonville police before being nabbed by Medford police, who brought his car to a halt with spike strips. An OSP report says a trooper was driving southbound on Highway 99 near its intersection with Sage Road just before 11:30 p.m. Winsbury allegedly crossed in front of the trooper while driving a white Honda Civic "over the fog line and center line multiple times," according to the report. The trooper attempted to pull the Honda over, but it pulled away at a high speed. The vehicle raced "through downtown Medford, running multiple red lights," the report reads. OSP eventually lost sight of the car. The sheriff's department resumed the pursuit about 10 minutes later when deputies spotted the Honda near Sunset Drive and Thomas Road. "It was driving erratically at that point still," sheriff's department Capt. Nathan Sickler said. The vehicle continued into Jacksonville, where Jacksonville police tried to stop it with spike strips near South Stage Road and Fifth Street. The Honda drove around them, Sickler said, but another set of spike strips laid down by Medford police at West Main Street and Oak Grove Road succeeded in halting the car. Police then took Winsbury into custody. Winsbury remains in the Jackson County Jail without bail on charges of attempt to elude, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving while suspended and a parole violation, according to jail records.
