Shannon Irene Warren, 45, of the 500 block of Freeman Road pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of attempted murder, second-degree assault, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree attempted assault, first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, fourth-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief and interfering with making a report. Warren has a pre-trial conference hearing scheduled for March 7 in Jackson County Circuit Court. Warren allegedly went to Shannon Lee Hilton's home in violation of a restraining order Jan. 22, according to an affidavit by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Warren allegedly came through the front door and tried to attack Hilton, 45. House guest Richard Griffiths allegedly intervened by pushing Warren back, but Warren punched him in the face. He allegedly forced Warren out and locked the door, the affidavit said. Warren then allegedly smashed the front window of the house, climbed back in and grabbed a large piece of broken glass. She allegedly threatened to kill Griffiths and cut his throat. He allegedly threw her down while she swung the glass at his head and neck area. She allegedly cut Griffiths in the leg through his pants, the affidavit said. Griffiths allegedly received a black eye and several cuts, the affidavit said. Warren was arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where she remains on $200,000 bail. In January 2014, police responded to a fight involving both women that allegedly included head-butting, punches and strikes with a frying pan. Warren suffered extensive bruising and Hilton had a damaged nose. Court records show Warren was arrested following the incident but charges, including fourth-degree assault and harassment, were dismissed after she completed terms of negotiations, including attending an "Alternatives to Violence" class. In December 2014, Warren was the victim of an attack when Hilton beat her with a police-style baton, breaking her ribs and causing her to be hospitalized with a chest tube. Hilton pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree assault and was sentenced to pay $27,409 in restitution and enter a domestic violence prevention program. A second-degree assault charge — which carries a Measure 11 mandatory minimum sentence of five years and 10 months in prison upon conviction — was dismissed in a plea agreement. In 2015, Warren was convicted of harassing Hilton by telephone and, in another case, Warren was convicted of harassment and first-degree criminal trespassing after reportedly breaking into Hilton's house and punching her in the head.
