The fifth-ranked Black Tornado capped off the Nike Interstate Shootout with three straight wins, the final one a 54-35 decision over Lebanon on Thursday, to claim fifth place in the Navy Division of the talent-heavy tournament. North’s only loss was to third-ranked Lakeridge. "I’m really happy for the seniors," said Karrick, whose team improved to 9-1 heading into Tuesday’s Southern Oregon Conference opener at Ashland. "We’ve come up here the last three years, and this is the first time we’ve come home with a trophy. I’m really pleased the way they played over the last few games." The Black Tornado jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and was in charge the rest of the way. The advantage reached double figures for good during a third-quarter spurt. Advertisement Senior point guard Kailey Bostwick led a balanced scoring attack — eight players scored — with 13 points, while Megan Ross contributed 12 points. Post Michelle Westermann scored eight points to go with six rebounds and four steals. "The scoring was so typical," said Karrick. "We are very balanced, and people are playing good team ball. Whipple added six rebounds and four steals for the Eagles, who ran their season record to 2-8 heading into Tuesday’s Southern Oregon Conference opener against Roseburg. GLENCOE 38, ASHLAND 36 — At Lake Oswego, Elizabeth Dissen sank a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining to lift Glencoe past Ashland in the final round of the Nike Interstate Shootout. Alysse Carlson scored 14 points for the Grizzlies (2-7). Abeni Hill added nine points and nine rebounds.
