Michael Devin Catlett-Carpenter, 35, of the 2600 block of Dark Hollow Road, Medford, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of second-degree kidnapping, coercion, fourth-degree assault, menacing, recklessly endangering and reckless driving. He remained in jail Friday without bail. According to court documents, Catlett-Carpenter allegedly drove erratically around Applegate Lake and Cantrall-Buckley County Park. His girlfriend told Jackson County sheriff's deputies he drove about 100 mph on upper Applegate Road and made threats to crash the truck and kill them both. According to an affidavit, the victim told deputies when she first attempted to flee the truck, Catlett-Carpenter jumped out, picked her up and forcibly shoved her back into the truck and physically assaulted her, slapping her in the face, pulling her hair and grabbing her by the neck. The victim said she was so fearful that she jumped out of the moving vehicle at one point. Other times, however, she would get back into the truck because it was cold outside, according to the affidavit. The victim reported the incident at the emergency room at Providence Medford Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries. A deputy noted he saw a small cut on the bridge of her nose, finger marks on the back of her neck and what appeared to be a bruise on her left arm. The incident violated a May 13 Clark County, Wash., no-contact order protecting the victim from Catlett-Carpenter. The restraining order stemmed from Washington domestic violence charges of fourth-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment. Catlett-Carpenter is also facing domestic violence charges for alleged incidents against family members in December 2014 and January of this year. A trial date of Jan. 5, 2016, is set for that case.
