Calls reporting the fire near Eagle Point High School started coming into emergency dispatch at 8:52 a.m., according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon records. Jackson County Fire District 3 responded with five engines, including a ladder truck. The fire was well under way by the time they arrived. Crews battled the flames for about 45 minutes, and North Royal Avenue was temporarily closed during firefighting efforts. The barn's owner lives out of state and used the building for storage. Although most of the barn was destroyed, crews were able to salvage some of the owner's belongings. “The second story was pretty much taken out by the fire,” Fire District 3 spokeswoman Ashley Lara said. The adjacent house was not damaged, and no one was injured. Lara said the cause is not yet known, but no power was running into the structure prior to the incident. “We’ll be interested to see what the outcome is,” Lara said. The fire was not far from the former Butte Creek Mill, which was destroyed in a spectacular fire Christmas morning.
