Hood Community College on Friday night. Bartels offered up a two-run double to left-center field, pulling the RiverDogs within 6-5 in the seventh inning. Southern Oregon, unfortunately, never could quite get over the hump brought forth by a 5-0 deficit after three innings. The RiverDogs (32-14) did manage to get a runner on first and third base in the eighth inning, but Brent Foster was induced into a groundout to halt the rally. Portland’s David Kessler helped the Kings cap a three-run third inning with a two-run single off Nick Newmann. The RiverDogs then scratched back with two runs in the fourth, sparked by back-to-back singles from Foster and Bartels. After a sacrifice bunt by Mike Newmann moved the runners over, Pat Jolley drove home a run with a sacrifice fly and Eric Beasly followed with an RBI single. In the seventh, Nick Newmann and Phil Ouellette drew walks and Nate Mayben was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pinch runner Steve DeClerck scored when a pickoff attempt of Mayben at first base was thrown away and, after an out, Bartels supplied his two-run double. Jolley chipped in two hits for the RiverDogs, who play the Portland Cardinals at 1 p.m. today in a doubleheader at Mt. Hood Community College.
